Thinking about my options for this winter. Nose bags are really old fashioned, but thinking about using one to feed a small amount of supplementary food, so the others can't steal it, and the one in question can't spill it all over the floor.

What do you think? Anyone use them?

I was day dreaming about nosebags when Beast wouldn't eat her speedibeet with her expensive supplements in the other night... it was in a, probably cruel, force feeding kind of way though to be honest. 😂 But if the horse actually wants to eat the food and it helps stop others getting it then I don't think there's a problem. (My day dreams were more along the line of "I'll fasten your face to it until you bloody eat it woman"... that's not the way to use them! 😂 ) I think Kramer sell them?

Gawsworth track livery rehabilitation yard use them routinely on all the horses. Great idea. There was a thread about them on here recently.

Where I’ve been on holiday in Spain they make their own out of feed bags. Ponies don’t seem to mind. They are a bit rough looking especially with baling string over their ears. But they all tuck in. Seem very content.

they're something I am thinking about for my two-one can be a bit naughty about food to the other one and they are kept together during the winter. also thinking about having one for trekking.

The Police horses had to use them when on a long duty on the lorry. I hated them. They are clumsy, they get musty with saliva, and they still were able to tip it out if the tipped their heads up.

Don't get me wrong, they were greedy and ate from them but it was not nice.

One of my friends is a polo groom, and they use them all the time, they have a herd in the field, and different horses have different feeds, some get bullied etc, so they all get a nose bag, they are watched closely while eating, then bags off, job done, it works very well for them, and saves the time of bringing them all in, the ponies dont seem to mind at all.
