My gelding has them every now and then (like 3 - 4 times a year max) and they are only little ones and usually if he has gone bonkers in the field or its really really hot and not really been anything to worry about but he has had 3 in the last 2 weeks, again only little ones (they look a lot worse than they are especially as he manages to smear it all around his face and rub his nose on his legs etc.. you get the picture!!) but there hasn't been any reason for it? One time he was standing on the yard and his nose just started dripping and then one in the field when I was poo picking and when I went in the field he was fine and when I came out I noticed the blood but he had only been grazing and not going mad or anything and then he got a little one when we were just walking around the woods.

I don't like the fact that they have become regular... shall I just wait for 1 more before I get the vet to check him over or is 3 in 2 weeks enough?

He has COPD but it living out and its all under control but could that be related??

Thanks

Its quite common, generally just a burst blood vessel. But if it has become regular, I would suggest chatting to the vet about it to make sure there is no underlying problem.

So given he has roughly no more than 4 year - I am right in thinking that 3 in 2 weeks is classed as regular? Im a nightmare when it comes to the vet and always call them out for the slightest thing so want to make sure im not being neurotic!

Definitely call vet to be on the safe side as it really is better to be safe than sorry though I'm pretty sure you'd decided that already by posting on here lol

I have just lost a mare to possible guttural pouch mycosis. Please ask your vet to scope your horse, its the only way to find out if he has a fungal infection and it can be treated if caught . Good luck
