Nose Nets ????

Do they really work and how did you know your horse needed one??

My mare has been really snorting lately and funny with her head tossing it around??

anything else that could help with this problem ?
 
I've tried them and it helped a bit, but you can't fit it to a grackle noseband and she cannot wear a cavesson one as it sets her head tossing off.
I didn't know if she needed a net, but was trying pretty much everything that might help.
Settled for a grackle, comfort bridle and a Neue Schule bit, seems that in her case it's the nerves on the face that trigger a response to bridles.
 
I've heard a lot of good things about them helping headshakers.. have you ruled out any vetinerary problems?

Damn i already only ride in Neue Schule bits

and she is a dressage pony so No Grackle allowed might try a drop on her thoughx

yes teeth back etc etc regularly checked !!

and she has only started this in the last couple of weeks she sort of snorts - strange hard to explain really and we have white snot sometimes x
 
I have had good results from the nose net on my old horse who used to have a dicky fit,who snorted and head shaked when the rape was out, and my friends horse has just started it and has put a nose net on and it has stopped, see if you can borrow one to see if it works cos they are not exactly cheap.

oh really I thought they were only about £30 x
 
We used one on our little Welsh B and it worked a treat. Fits well under a flash. As he used to rub and then rip the net I took one apart, used it as a pattern and got my sewing machine out. Skinflint eh - but it worked and saved it loads (£18 for 3 little bits of net can be pricey if they demolish them in a week or so)
 
Do you anyone with one you can try first? I tried one on my boy last week who has just started head shaking and he wouldn't even tolerate having it on in the stable. Started sneezing and trying to rub it off up and down me and he is normally far too well mannered to rub! He literally sneezed until I gave up and took it off. I'm now experimenting with anti-histamines. Apparently the global herbs shake free works well but I'm going to see if they'll send a sample first as their stuff is very smelly and horse might not eat it! :rolleyes:
 
If a nose net is gonna help, they usually also try and rub their nose on their front leg (usually when you've gotten off! Can't imagine them getting away with it while you're riding!) aswell as just generally snorting and shaking head.

They are quite effective though, as is rubbing a bit of vaseline in their nostrils

vaseline ???? really oh might try that one x
 
I use one on my headshaker - very helpful and am now definitely noticing a difference with it on. I was going to try NAF Shake Relief as have heard good things about this too.
 
yeah... not saying it's a cure. But can help for human hayfever and have heard it being used on horses too.... certainly can't hurt!
 
I use one on my mare during the spring and summer. It goes on at the beginning of April and comes off the end of September. Completely invaluable. I wouldn't be able to ride in the summer without it. She's terrible sensitive to pollen, flies, etc. Stamps her feet, constantly tries to rub her nose if she isn't wearing it. As soon as it goes on, she's a dream!
 
Had quite a problem with my gelding tossing his head all over the place especially in the canter. Almost pulled me right out of the saddle. Got a nose net and it was like a miracle. His head never moved. I would highly recommend them if all other causes have been investigated also.
