My horse has had a reaction to pollen/rape seed. She has seen the vet and is currently on ventapulmin. The alergic reaction really affected her breathing and took a few days to subside. She’s now much better - probably helped by the rain returning! but I’m wondering if a nose net might help with the pollen getting into her respiratory system while she’s being worked. Has anyone used a nose net for this reason?

Yep I've used one. I used a bog-standard one which just came down over the nose; however it tended to flip up in canter, so I bought a "nosebag" type one. This however needs a noseband to hitch it onto, and I have a bridle without a noseband. So can't use that one.

Mine has equine asthma, and has struggled with the recent hot weather. What I've tended to do is (if not hot & sunny) smear Vicks around her nostrils - and wipe it off later on if she's going out in the sun, OR to use her field fly-mask which has a lovely long nose piece that goes down over her nostrils and is an excellent protector, as well as protecting her pink/white nose from the sun. I did buy a Cashels ride-on one but it just isn't long enough to go over her nostrils so frankly is useless. I will be sending it back.

Have found a field fly-mask on Amazon however which seems nice & light and hopefully will do her well. I can't recall the brand of it, sorry. Hopefully it will arrive in a day or two.

Yes!! I have had the exact same scenario as you this year and haven't had this previous years. Mine was constantly head shaking and very upset, bought a Lemieux Nose Net last week and she is completely back to normal, I was so sceptical but it really does work! You get two in a pack so I have put one on each bridle.

Had your horse suffered with this before? I’ve had my horse for 6 years, always lived on the same yard never had a problem till just recently.

When my mare was in work she wore a nose net and it really helped her. I really like the le mieux comfort shields, they’re fitted well and don’t move like some do

My mare seasonal head shakes between April - May, she wears a nose net which makes a huge difference but luckily from the start of May she’s massively improved and doesn’t wear one ridden for the rest of summer. Must be a specific pollen.

She does wear a fly mask with nose net attached all summer though.
