Plain or raised cavesson noseband for me. I'd use a flash if the horse needed it, or a drop, but I'd avoid crank nosebands like the plague. I used to like them because of the extra padding but so many are done up far too tightly. The whole design of the things are to enable them to be fastened as tight as possible but as well as jamming the jaw shut they can clamp the skin of the horses' cheeks up against their teeth (because of where the padding ends) which is extremely uncomfortable.
