Bonjourno :D I need some help to choose a new noseband/bridle if anyone could help please. Previously in a large crank but she can be a bit gobby at times so I tried a flash and she works realy well in it and gives me alot more control when she has "OMG canter poles!!" moments  We have tried a mexican/grakle on her and she hated it so a flash it must be. So now i have the dilemma of what size of noseband, thin or thick? She has quite a petite head for a 16.2-16.3!! I quite like the one she has but it unfortunatly has no flash attachment on it :(
This was a temporary thin noseband when we first got her ...

I think the thin one. I think crank nosebands interfere with the action of the bit by stopping the rings lying flat, and they only look good on horses with chunky heads. For flat work I hate flash nosebands, though I understand they have a use for jumping or cross country.

If its a competition bridle as well I think it also depends what you want to do?

The wider ones look smart for dressage but might not be appropiate for a riding horse class at shows?

I have just bought a bridle with a wider noseband for mine so have gone from this

to this - which I think looks much better, and not just because it was £200 more expensive (ok ok, so first bridle v cheap! :D )

Suzieq - i have one of those but the noseband is to wide for it :( Otherwise I could have saved some money, darn it :p

Horsey_o - Bridle will be for Dr, Sj and xc, i dont fancey the showing malarky lol

Stencilface - £200  Are you mad!!! But it is a very nice bridle especialy the browband, oh if only i had that money for a bridle lol

KristmasKatt - Nope havent tried a drop, I had a flash strap lying around so thought id try it. Tbh i was expecting her to hate it like the grackle. Ive herad good things RE the drop so i might see if anyone has one at the yard. Thanks :)

Not a fan of the wide flat cavessons tbh, I have one but it shall remain in the roofspace for all eternity ;)

I think a bridle like mine would look lovely on her, but the only way I have justified spending that much on a bridle is a) he has had the same £20 bridle for 6 years and b) he is coming to my wedding, and needed something a bit nicer than my old one :)

I think she would look better in a wide cavesson/flash than a drop. However, maybe try the drop and see - functionality has to come before looks. Have you tried her with no noseband, sometimes if you give them nothing to fight against they will relax their jaw and become less gobby. General hacking etc I go through phases of not wearing a noseband, and mine is there for show only really, its never done up tight enough to restrict him :)

Only_me - Billy looks very smart in the double, has he turned into a showing diva :p ... Oh i like the Sabre one, not as thick as mine but i likey (its on the list :D ) Good luck for Saturday to :)

Stencilface ... lol my bridle is made from 3 different bridles  Reins are a dark brown (but shhhh no one notices, I do have black ones but i dont like them), there was originaly a grakle on it from last boyo but changed to the crank lol Poor pony :p ... Iv tried her with a loose cavesson but not completely bare, I think il try that to. Shes very quite in the mouth but its just when she spooks she opens her mouth and buggers off, or if she sees something opens her mouth and sticks her head in the air and fixes her neck so makes it very difficult to get her listening again. Also when were cantering if i ask for a bit of collection she'll open her mouth, pull and try and fall into trot but with the flash she happily collects which no neck fixing or gobbing etc. Hmmmmm

Thick!! (Crank, not flat)
I think the thin ones look awful, unless on a fine headed Arab or Welsh a!

Have the flat one, and have a local saddler make you a flash attachement that you can take on and off as required.

The wider one looks much better,
