Well i am thoughroughly stressed..
SO i have never competed in dressage before and this weekend wil be my first [2!] tests...
I was upset to find that waterford mouthpeices aren't dressage legal as maddie is a complete bugg3r for leaning. So i have switched her into her french link snaffle and she is leaning badly but i shall cope with it.
She's also in a flash too which will hopefullly give me some controll as she likes to go VERY fast/ tank off, which isn't that great when it comes to cantering circles/changing rein in canter.

So i was wondering if anyone has any suggestions on a dressage legal bit that would maybe not make her leaning as bad, bearing in mind she is quite string and doesn't go in an outline much..And if having a flash would encourage her to lean more...

Also, would an eliptical linked bit be harder to lean on or just the same?

I know that it's too short notice to get a bit for this weekend but it would be nice for the future as i would like to do a bit more dressage.

thank you!

p.s...she doesn't tolerate single jointed bits.

This link will show you which one are legal:

Had a look at the myler bits, sound quite interesting actually, will have a wee ponder over it.
thank you.

Does anyone know about the flash maybe encourouging her to lean?

I've got a horse that leans - the flash keeps their mouths shut, but didn't make a difference to her in terms of leaning. I've tried her in french-links and a lozenge (from frogpool - it's cheap to try!), as well as snaffles, and she was the same in all of them. Like yours she goes best in a waterford. I do most of my schooling of her in the waterford, and only use a snaffle for competing.

The best thing for her was schooling - lots of transitions, halting her as soon as she started to lean, and then when she relaxed her jaw setting off again. And lots of small circles, turn on the haunches to move the weight backwards.

Good luck x

I have just hired a nueue schlue verdiband (sp) my horse was in the Myler but has started to lean and evade. I rode her in this new bit yesterday and she was a star so much softer in the mouth

mine leaned all the time until I put him i a neu schule comfy contact eggbut snaffle, each side works independently allowing you to pick up a single side of him, by just raising the hand. When used together has the action of a straight bar. It sweet iron aswell, so extra tasty
