When we went to try Toby he was ridden in a grackle. On getting him home we decided we would try him in a normal noseband as i prefer not to use anything out of the ordinary unless i have to!
He isn't to bad but he does take hold of the bit a bit and crosses his jaw, although he gets stronger he doesn't run off tho.
Anyway went out to buy a grackle to see it it cured it and it did. Basically i was wondering if maybe a crank noseband may help as i really dont want to put him in the grackle perminantly if i dont have to!

My horse was ridden in a grackle when I first got him. He used to cross his jaw and grind his teeth. I put him in a cavesson and had his teeth done, now with some schooling he is now accepting the bit and pretty happy in his mouth. If you've not had his teeth checked I would do that and maybe try a french link or something, with a bit more movement in it. Might not work but it's worth a try - I'd rather have less tack than more as well!

I seriously dislike crank nosebands - I'd rather see a horse in a grackle any day over a crank.

I really like grackle nosebands TBH, much better than the crank and flash. But I know what you mean its nice to have them in a caverson if you can. Teeth check and then more schooling and he might be fine
