My 27yr old TB mare who I've owned & loved for 20 years is scaring me again!
She has had a bright red but intermittently watery nosebleed since saturday, NOT bilateral, constant & clotty at times but not ever enough really to leave the nostril. Found a vet who could scope but on the eve before she had slowed to breaks with no blood, so vet said monitor & hold off with the scope.
Wednesday we had a cleaner nose day after a clean nose wed eve tho still going.
Yesterday there were three shorter but thicker clots as opposed to the 5inch on mon & three inch tues am-only 1mm & 0.5mm thick.
Yesterday(thurs) eve I spotted a slight thickening on the same side on her forehead, directly below the inside of her ear when pricked foreward on the rounded padded part approx 1mm thicker than the other side so barely noticeable but that felt spongier, so possible some form of blood/pus or fluid underneath & an entry/exit wound.
Spoke to my normal vet last night & hoping its caused by a knock rather than tumors or sinus issues.
She tollerates me touching it & can get a hollow sound from the gutteral pouch areas below the eyes if I tap.
No odour from nose or mouth. Started her on a 5 day course of Norodine antibiotics and have upper her Apple Cider Vinegar(natural antibiotic, thinking there is possibly a link to a healed scratch on her neck, same side that appeared just prior to the bleed but was only superficial & congealed scratch type when I found it..& so that it will clear up with antib's.
Would any of you still be scoping? Funds very tight as just had a £1000 bill for my MOT this week to find by monday. Not been a good year!
I *had* thought the blood flow was reducing, but think she may have an infection similar to my hip wound the other day.(got attacked by an invisible Ninja who made one of my horses use me as a landing pad & had a huge yukky infection come up despite thinking I'd picked out all the grit tho cleared with anti b's)
I do use zoopharmacognosy in addition to veterinary meds so have offered her various things & she's taking more interest in carrotseed oil & lavender as well as more interested than usual in mentha pepperita but has that available regardless as standard for all mine since our earlier scares this year(same mare). Anyone have any extra experiences they can relate to with this?
Thank you in advance xx
