Unfortunately my girl is a seasonal HS. Although managed with some success using TCM just wonder if anyone has experience of Nostrilvet. I think it is fairly new to market and so thought you guys would be a good place to ask.

I tried Nostrilvet on my headshaker last year because I liked the idea of the product and it seemed to be a logical way to alleviate the snorting and sneeezing. However I found it impactical as the idea was to puff some powder up into the nostril and the plastic bottle/applicator was too easily blocked and the powder did not freely squirt. I cannot say that it helped my horse because of this problem.

I have achieved the best results with hayfever tablets and beconase spray.

A friend of mine stocks Nostrilvet in his tack shop and I keep asking him for feedback on it, but unfortunately he hasn't sold a single one yet :( I would be interested to hear if anyone has used it successfully.

My vets say save your money, the idea is ridiculous. Nostrilvet is supposed to coat the inside of as much of the upper airways as possible, leaving it sticky so that passing allergens (pollen for my horse) get stuck to it at every breath in and aren't deeply inhaled by the horse. They point out that a horse takes a massive amount of air in with every breath and very, very little of it would brush against the walls of the upper airways, sticky or otherwise. Less than 1%. So that's over 99% of the allergens still cheerfully being inhaled with every breath while your £32 slowly evaporates. I think it's another of those products that come under the heading Nice Idea But Divorced From Reality.

See my post about Vaseline - this helps more than anything I have tried, including Nostrilvet. The bottle is useless, it blocks and its really difficult to get anything to come out inside their noses.

I agree with the above - my vet asked me to try NostrilVet on my head shaker and it just clogged (mind you, I got a nose-full when trying to clear it:D)

I am currently having a fair amount of success with Nupafeed magnesium calmer - some people noticed a big improvement as a side effect of this calmer, so I am giving it a try. I can only speak for my horse (if you see what I mean!), but for him it's as effective as the steroids or anti-histamines...

Good luck! It's a very frustrating condition....

Thanks everyone for your responses. I think I'll save my money.

I'm using Nupafeed as well and found this + her Tradional Chinese Medicne help me to manage the HS. This weekend was bad but I think it was due to the sudden, extreme change in weather. Been double dosing and this evening noticed an improvement.
