But today, I took Dizz out for a wee hack on our own, and we cantered :D :D :D

It was the first time we'd been out on our own in nine months, from just before I broke my back.

We'd started off with a schooling session, but the Dizz thought otherwise and was a prat. D1 had a go, but the Dizz was an equal prat for her too . She got two good circuits on each rein and then called it a day.

This is the point I bounced up, complete with hgh viz for me and for the Dizz. Popped it on. Climbed back aboard and off we went :D :D :D

There's a short stretch of grass verge (quiet, straight country lane) and I thought "Why not?!" So gave it a go :D :D :D

Anyone who knows me will know that cantering, especially when hacking, has been a bit of an issue with me with the Dizzy one. I came off and bashed my head just over a year ago. When I was riding again, the cantering went all to pot :(. Took me months to get okay with it. Then I came off jumping (end July last year) and broke my back. Started riding again at the start of February this year, but had a stinking cold, so the riding has been limited...

Sorry, I am rambling on (so what's new I hear you cry!:eek::D:D). Just wanted to share the good bits as you've all been there to prop me up through the bad bits :D

Thank you folks :D

I feel a bit daft, being so excited about cantering. But ah well. Onwards and sidewards as they say :D :D

Edited to say: and yes, I'm still grinning like a loon :D :D

How fantastic! I know how you must feel as I am on my way to getting there (cantered on my own in the school this week - yay!) after my fall in October.

I am hoping that if I don't manage to get out in the next couple of weekends (with my very steady, sensible friend and her very steady, sensible horse), then over the Easter holidays when I can get to the yard every day.

Well done, you! I am grinning for you too!! :D:D

Well done, I completely know where you are coming from- I still haven't hacked out on my own (in fact barely hacked at all!) since my mare reared and fell on me in August resulting in an operation. I hope to again soon but hacking just presents so many ifs and buts...I have no problem galloping round a xc course though- it's weird! Congrats again though, that is a massive step :)

Well done you - cantering on a solo hack is a big thing for me too. Cantering on a hack with others is bad enough so I really do appreciate what you've overcome. I hope you're still on a high from it this morning.

Aw shucks :D More Thank you to folks :D:D

Sorry to hear that some of have had a bad time of it. You'll get there :D:D:D

And yes, still grinning :D Or it's now a rather self satisfied smile :cool::D

Aching like mad lol. Hadn't ridden for a week, what with one thing or another, so muscles today are saying 'Ouch!'. I feel like I need ironing lol. Dizz has the big Warmblood canter, but it's smooth (I have this on the good authority of Alwaysbroke lol), but when I got nervous, I suffered the Bouncing Bum Syndrome :o. Before the last accident, I couldn't really sit to her canter, but now, well now it's all so much better :D. Now when nervous (not sure what she is going to do), I do tip forward a bit, but on the whole my bum stays pretty much where it should :D. That makes me feel safer, which means I feel more confident ergo I ride better :D

Have I mentioned I love this horse? :D : D : D

Next, it will be cantering with others and across a field... I'll let you know if/when that happens :eek::rolleyes::D

Mark every milestone - it's important! (And I find your posts inspiring)

Big congratulations! A lesser person would not have got back on at all!
Well done!

Well it might not be a big deal to most but it is with me! I am happy to walk and trot in company on hacks but I need to get out more regularly before I will happily canter along the bridleways. As I haven't ridden much this winter and thanks to plenty of mud I haven't had chance to get along the bridleways yet to try cantering. I probably will this weekend as it has dried out a bit - I'll be as happy as you are then when we've achieved this:D

Well done MrsM - you are an inspiration:D
