.. tomorrow my friend and I are being taken out with our horses for a jolly in her friend's lorry. We only ever hack around the local lanes but after 10 years of doing this we are going to try somewhere different!
I know that doesn't sound much to some of you seasoned travellers but I have never done this before (I daren't with my previous horse as he wasn't a good traveller). Now I have Jerry, I am more confident with him and he is good in company - I hope.

We are only going to the other side of the county but there are some nice bridleways and off road tracks.
Wish us luck! If it works out OK, we may go further next time - maybe as far as a beach!
I'll take some piccies and post them tomorrow!

Hope you have fun

We're hoping to take ponios out more and travel further. The last time my girly went somewhere new she bounced the whole way in excitement! (She's about 27/28

Oh lucky you - I love going somewhere new. I took my horse and my daughter's up to Suffolk for a competition and the day before we went for a hack and didn't really know where we were heading so couldn't do much. Then the day after we wanted to ride along the beach. But we were a day too early - horses not supposed to go on the beach until 1st October. We did anyway, but only for a quick go before we got into trouble - it was fab but mine was so busy spooking at the waves I very nearly came off and that would have been sooo embarrassing, especially with teenage daughter cackling. It was also hard to park - could hardly fit the horse lorry in the pay-and-display car park!

I know you can ride on Holkham beach in Norfolk all year round but do you know of anywhere else? Maybe I should do a separate post on that...

Thanks - I am nervously excited! My OH bought some travelling boots for Jerry for Christmas and I bought him a fleece cooler for travelling etc so we are going out looking very smart. I even cleaned my tack this afternoon!

It's a great way to get started with travelling, mum and I used to do it a lot when I was younger as the hacking at our house was rubbish.

April is a great traveller and we go to lots of things but I normally get a lift there.
Once I start to drive the box myself (and I have driven a car for 8 years!) I fully intend to box to my friends for hacks first so that I only have the stress of driving the box without a competition at the other end

Lovely idea!! We are taking my boy and his girlfriend up to Thetford Forest on Saturday - I have had him a year on that day and this is our first ridden outing - soooo looking forward to it!! (Weather - pleeeeaaaase do not rain!!)

Ditto the weather plea! As it is my friend's friend who has the lorry, it is up to her whether we go out if it's raining, I will!
Hope you have a good day too.

Lucky you, I'd love to do that - enjoy yourself!

(Yes, we have a box but I can't drive it, hubby won't except for work things)

Thanks - I am looking forward to it but never having travelled with a horse before I am imagining all the things that could go wrong! I hope he will load ok in the morning and he behaves himself in the lorry. We are parking at someone's yard and they are coming out on their horses so there will be four of us going out so I hope Jerry doesn't get too fizzed up - especially if we find some places to canter as he is always more excited when cantering in company.
Just hope the rain holds off!

Enjoy!!I am sure you and your horses will love it!!I did!!I had my boy 10 yrs and the first time we went to the beach this august was the best feeling i have ever had,it was amazing!!We too had never travelled anywhere for enjoyment, usually just moving yards!lol!!He had a ball!!!

I would love to think we might progress to getting to a beach sometime in 2008. The trouble is, if tomorrow is a success I will be desparate for my own lorry or trailer.
Better get saving!
We've already had our first laugh to do with going out when we tried Jerry's travel boots on. He did a very funny walk, really lifting his hind legs up high - my friend and I were doubled up laughing!
Bless him - he didn't panic or anything though.

LOL!!!They all do that, even after years of having them on!!!Go for it,you will love the beach!!!We went mad, lol!!!My lad thought all his xmas's had come at once!!!lol!!Enjoy, let us know how you get on!!!
