Not a great day

Sorry to hear about this Weezy. My friend's SJ mare has the same problem - she'd trash herself & the trailer with a partition, but is a perfect traveller without the partition (we now travel ALL our horses without the partition, they all stand diagonally & travel happier).

Word of warning, do also be careful in a horse box. We travelled her once in the centre partition & she was fine (presumably because she could spread her legs underneath the partition on either side. Because she had travelled well, we made the mistake of assuming she was 'fine in the lorry'. Next time, she was loaded closest to the cab. She freaked out so much that broke the jockey door in (it literally fell in) & did a similar injury to Porridge. They were stuck on a layby on a hugely busy dual carriageway unable to move. I can to the rescue, took one look at her & called a vet to sedate her in the lorry on the dual carriageway... The vet then travelled in the back with her whilst she was heavily sedated.

Really scary & very upsetting.

Some horses just need the leg room.

So sorry to hear this Weezy

Hindsight is a wonderful thing, but i guess you'll remember that darned partition in future. Hopefully P is feeling a little less sore this morning

Have replied on the update, but looked for this to see what had happened. She is just such a poppet!

Talking to the YOs daughter who is a vet student, she told me that apparently mares are FAR worse to travel than geldings, even more so if they have had a foal - to do with their pelvis apparently, but I had never heard that before although it makes complete sense (I know how knackered my pelvis is after having babies!)

That's really interesting and I suppose makes sense, but I've not heard of it - hope it's not true...............
