ok, I know there are lots of posts on here already asking about the price/value of a horse, but my one is slighlty different!! I want to know how much you think i paide for my horse, I want to know this beacuse when i told someone how much i paid for him they were surprised!!!!

(the original)
10 years old, arab x french trotter (with french papers), chestnut gelding, 16hh, ridden in a pelham as can be strong therfore not a novice ride, ex-endurance horse (had to stop as was too willing to continue and when it came to the vet checks he wouldn't calm down, too excited! He was winning classes up to 100km - If i remember correctly!) Lives out all year round, rugged up in the winter.

(sorry can't remember the rest but thats the baisics!! but a know for a fact that he wasn't jumped!!)

now:
11 year old, (all of the description above!!), Still ridden in a pelham, but has had novices on top in the field, taught one to do rising trot, one to jump. He can jump a course of 3'6 jumps at home, free jumps 4'3, leg yields, shoulders in/out, half pass, lengthens and shortens stride, has a nice outline.

So how much do you think i bought him for???

hmmmm I am not good at this either but perhaps in the 2k area? Very good age and height for selling, and he is handsome, but if he would be used mainly for hacking I guess there is more demand for horses that are novice rides? Perhaps more if he was very good to handle in all ways.

I think he would certainly be worth a lot more now that you have schooled him more and and jumped him, particularly if he has competed a bit in jumping/dressage or you hunted him :-)

Looks like a horse nearer the £5k mark, is absolutely gorgeous and sounds talented too. However from your comment I am thinking £500 !!

I reckon under a grand because there really are some diamonds out there and with the work you can really turn them around. Sounds like he's worth lots now as you've done so much with him.
If a horse isn't right for someone then often they are willing to 'get rid' cheaply. My horse was a bargain under a grand too because to them he was 'dangerous'. (for dangerous read misunderstood) !

Well he looks truly lovely and it sounds like you have had a tonne of fun with him. I said this price as I am very familiar with the cost of horses on the Continent.
