Not eating / change of feed / head pulling around

A girl at my yard recently changed the horses feed...i suggest, as you would, mixing it in with existing feed over a week or so for said horse to get used to it.

But no, girl threw old feed away and just started on new feed.

Horse is a bit hit n miss eating it, some days he will, some days he wont, he also keeps yanking his head down when ridden and pulling his head around.

She is still attempting to feed the new feed, and is getting a saddler and dentist out to check horse over....and will not listen to me saying its the feed.

Am i right or wrong and should i keep my nose out!?
 
I'd say if you've already had a go at trying to help, try and keep your nose out. Make sure the horse isn't in pain, he may just be being head funny cause he's confused etc. but make sure there's no physical damage done and keep away from the girl if she seems unwilling to help.

Just be ready to stand by and er, pick up the pieces once everything goes wrong.
 
But would it not seem rationale it was the sudden changing of food causing tummy ache???

Why would she immediately assume teeth? or saddle pinching??

I changed my mares feed, and i mix it with her old stuff, for just over a week now....

He is a lovely horse, and she is pretty novice. and her parents paid an awful lot for him, i am only trying to help but i think i may just shut it lol, before i become the "yard know it all" x
 
I doubt very much that the change of feed is causing these symptoms. I think she is doing the right thing in having teeth and saddle checked. If nothing found I would then have a vet look him over for possible arthritis in neck, sore withers/back etc. I would also take a step back and let her get on with it:)
 
I have no idea why she would immediately assume teeth / back. If she has him checked by a vet and dentist regularly, and if she has changed nothing in his training way, then it would firstly lead to the feed, surely?
It may in fact not be the feed, but maybe if she mixed in some of his old feed and tried to get him to eat, she might have saved herself a lot of money, hassle and time!!
