My usually really greedy connie has gone off his hay. I maybe over reacting but he has only been picking at it in the last 24hrs. Think he is just really fed up with this weather and no grass to eat. He seem bright in himself and still eating his hard feed normally. Anyone else experiencing strange habits in this god awful weather?

Ours are definately eating a lot less hay in this weather for some reason. They seem fine, are warm, eating their feed etc but are not eating all the hay that is being put out which is unusual. I think there was a post on this recently and other people were finding the same. Don't worry, I'm sure this weather has taken us all by surprise including our horses!

I put hay out for 3 ponies tonight and they weren't even interested in having a mouthful, same last night, it was gone by morning though. I think they're just a bit bored of living off hay (they're all as fat as barrels so not to worried at mo!) I should also say we have 8inches of snow down so they're not getting much grass!

Same here, some of the riding school ponies still had nearly full haynets this morning! However, I've seen them eating snow so maybe that's why. There are two fields where all the hay is always gone though - the one Scooby lives in (surprise surprise!) and one where Ally lives; she is the greediest, most food-motivated cob I've ever seen. I swear she unhinges her jaw to get her evening feed down so fast!

Phew starting to feel much better. Yep we have a good 7-8inches its really boring me now! Not a blade of grass insight!

My also greedy connie has gone off his hay, although he has had a near constant supply hay for the last two weeks! He has only recently stopped eating it all, but his companion seems perfectly happy with it still, i think he's just getting really bored

when they start to leave the hay it is usually an indicator that the water supply is frozen or too cold!!! bit like us attempting to eat cream crackers with no juice! make sure any bucket food is extra sloppy to increase fluid intake!

my 2 are the same, but i am giving quite a bit more with all the snow!!! they have plenty of water inside there stable/shelter and outside which a brake the ice morning and night. Think they are just fed up with all they hay at the mo as you say they are eating their hard feed no probs!
