Not exactly competitive, but... 4yr old's first hack out on her tod!

No bad bits for us - Flo was exemplary as a 4yo. So was Sophie (except for falling into a 8ft deep ditch when a tractor/trailer/tarpaulin combo spooked her out hacking)but apart from that she was good too.

They have got sharper and naughtier with age I think

I just really miss the 'every day is a new experience' feeling with a youngster.

Yeah know what you mean... we always say the 4yr old year is the nice one... its the 5/6yr old year when they turn into terrors

Well today (?3rd hack?) was even more eventful - empty sheep feed bag blowing down the road, combine, tractor and trailer, hedgecutter (all on single track lanes) and worst of all - someone long-reining a Welsh Sec A!!

. I won't say he was foot perfect, but he was 99% very good pony and we escaped for a nice uneventful canter round a stubble to chill out

.

And we live in the quiet countryside!

wow, impressive. sounds as if he's a really laid back chap.
i wimped out today, they're combining up the road, and were zooming up and down the lane all day in big tractors with trailers full of grain, so i decided discretion was the better part of valour and we mooched around the school instead! i want to stay on the right side of the local farmers!
