One of my horses, the bossy one that can sometimes be aggressive when there's food about (with the other horses, not with me), has been leaving food in the bottom of his bucket the last few days.
I feed a scoop of hi-fi molasses free and a scoop of speedibeet twice a day, and put a bale of hay out betwen them morning and night. I always put a bit of blackcurrant cordial in with the beet to soak because one of the others is a fussy eater, and they all usually eat just fine, but the last few days (since the snow thawed) Alfie's been leaving up to half of his feed, instead favouring the hay. He isn't cold, has no physical signs of being unwell and it's not that he isn't eating, just that he seems more interested in the hay. He hasn't been ridden since new yr so I'm wondering, am I feeding him too much or should I be concerned about something else?
He had his teeth done in October, doesn't drop feed and is a healthy weight, if slightly rounder than he should be.
