So, Poor horse had mud fever and has been on box rest and bute and antibiotics for a five day course. At the end of the course the inside of his right hind was hideously swollen, so that morning I rang the vet and the superstar that he is he came out that day no fuss and on time!

He ultrasounded the leg and confirmed a very solid abscess in his leg, possibly caused by something making its way into the scab but cant be sure....

I videoed it for his record as I photograph anything veterinary. Poor lad is now bandaged and cuddled and fussed being walked 2x daily to check for lameness or further infection.

Heres the vid for those brave enough to watch

I can only imagine the relief he is feeling now with all that out, he was an incredibly brave lad. Hopefully just waiting for him to heal and feel better x

.... "just when you think it's all over....."

YUK!!!! Thanks for videoing it, though. It's made great lunchtime viewing! Your boy must feel tons better after losing all that gunk.

Thanks everyone! I will pass on your well wishes as carrots ;)

He was a very good boy tho I was that engrossed i did nearly drown my phone in it...yuck.

A big thank you has to go to the ladies at the yard who although were desperate to see some gore, but helped me keep my boy calm and upright and be great support for a worried me x

OMG. And was that due to mud fever?
He must be feeling better now.

Not down to mud fever, the mud fever was being treated and after his course had finished...literally the day after the vet came and sorted this out, he said the mf had cleared up.

LOL! at "wonderful" but I think anyone who managed to watch it till the end would be feeling relief on his behalf too :) I know I did

Hello all,

Thank you all for your well wishes. Archie is very bright and happy in himself on box rest eating and noseying on the yard staff. we have walked out in hand for some grass and a small leg stretch without any dramas. He will be getting his bandage changed tomorrow AM so we shall see how it looks in the morning.

xx

he has had is first bandage change and his second is on thursday and he is looking well, the vet was pleased with his leg, its slightly raised due to hard tissue but hopefully bandaging will keep it down. He is a pest with his top lip at the min as he is bored but i have explained to him it wont be much longer before he can cause chaos....plus its miserable wether so he isnt missing much ;) xx
