found out the neighbours child has been hitting my shetland and also chasing her around my field. She is a rescue so has taken a long time to gain trust, she broke her rib a while back and we suspected it was done by a human as due to where it was broken and that it was just one as she lives with big horses who would have done more damage than that.

Gonna ring RSPCA back they said if i caught or anyone else saw said child do anything again they would come out and have a long chat with the family.

Im fuming that someone could hurt my little pony where are the parents of said child to let it have the access to get into field in first place.

poor poor you and poor horse - it is a horrible feeling when someone has been in your field under any circumstances but this is appalling.

You could try electric tape but if possible place the fencer up high so child cant turn it off or if possible put a dummy camera up - if anyone asks just say it is real and records remotely. You will be suprised how real it looks and even though I know mine and neighbours is fake it really does make you feel you are being watched.

I hope the little S**T gets caught

Alternatively could you talk to the parents ? I know that this is probably not possible but you could word it that the child could get hurt if goes near pony !

Hard to prove about injury to your ponys rib, However I would approch and say to parents that you are very worried as the young girl was seen in field and you think horses might kick or bite her as not always very friendly ( kidding ) still it should be enough for them to tell her she is never to go into field again.

Have a word with Cit advice bur, and see if you can get an offical looking letter about the childs trespass and damage to said pony, etc:- vet bills, damage to fence. Also can you put a electric fence along the boundry where the child gets through, so the little buggar gets a nasty shock.:D:D

Vicious little madam. I can't really add to the good advice given here but I would bet money the child behaves this way becuase parents either do not care she behaves badly or think she cannot do wrong. Another feral adult on the way. :(

Stupid little child
Hopefully the little s*** gets caught. Could you try talk to the parents of said child? How old are they? Seriously twisted little person :/
I also second the electric fence idea, and put a sign up maybe or fake cameras, might just stop them. Hope they get caught, poor little pony :(

If the child is like this at the age it is now - God knows what it will be like when it's an adult....I suggest electric tape......

Dummy cameras/real cameras
3 rails of electric fencing
CCTV signs
Pony will bite/kick sign
Put 2 rows of electric, the outer one on a high setting so that it gives them a proper shock and puts them off, the second row near the pony on a lower setting.

Do the parents know what shes up to? They may not be aware of what shes doing. If they just dont care thats different. Electric tape sounds perfect. Nasty little child. We uaed to find our horses had been brushed and fed we hid in another field to see who it was, the two girls parents didnt know they were in our field (one of our ponies was on loan from a rescue place and could be quite snappy so we were a bit worried) it stopped once we pointed out the danger they were in.

The child is only 3 thats the worst bit there is already electric fence in field so they dont care as i have a foal on the way i dont wanna make another strand to touch floor as we all know what foals are like getting caught up.

What the hell are the parents thinking of? A 3 year old child being allowed to wander into someone elses field and terrorise the pony?
Never mind RSPCA....I would be phoning social services....imagine if the pony turned on her!!!

Whats the little "dear" doing running around on her own at that age? In that case cameras and rspca would be your best option. Unless you could put high mesh fences all round your fields?

Forget the RSPCA - you will probably have the 'problem' removed if you cantact social workers. A 3 yr old consistently left to her own devices will probably be taken into care.

Ive worked with social services so i know how they work and trust me they would not take the kid away like that. I know i have my friends kids running around with me when im up there he is only 2 but im with him whole time and he stays with the mare in foal who acts like a mum towards him but im there and he would never chase the ponies around.

Hopefully rspca will get the message to them.

if you can - just move - its not worth the hassle. In this world, people are horrible and you just dont know what they may do to your shetland if the family are spoken to or confronted by an organisation. Some people are truly evil.

3!!! As others have said where are the bloody parents? I caught daisy stomping on a lady bird today, and she was in slouch trouble for that, but when I explained that it was cruel she felt so wretched that she is now making a rescue home for all the lady birds she can find.

Ome extreme to the other.

Not the same I know but I wonder if the parents knew if they would give her a telling of buti guess if they are happy to let her wander off on her own then probably not

Im not on a yard and as i only pay 50 for 10 acres dont want to loose it the family are not nasty at all i get on well with their dad but he is at work when all this has been going on. Hopefully a chat will do them some good.

thats good value, i hope that a chat does resolve it, but if they are the kind of people to allow their 3 yr old roam free, i cant see it doing much good. I am pleased to hear you get on well with dad, perhaps you could talk to him before the organisations go round?

I hope for your shetlands sake it is resolved quickly and painlessly. xx

I caught a child in one of our fields last week, about 10 years old. Explained that one of our horses would flatten him if it got near him, so stay the heck out or else. Not seen them near the field since - once they knew I'd clocked them they don't hang about there now. Also, he hurt his leg climbing back out the field - karma or what?!

i wouldnt have even thought a child of that age would have the strength to hit a pony ... or the speed to catch one? ...

Don't you believe it!

I caught a child (rising 4 at the time) at a PC all day rally who was cheerfully beating a small pony with a schooling whip - and I mean beating it. It was big sisters pony tied to the back of a trailer in lunchtime. Sister was with her group having lunch. Mummy had wandered over to trailer-but-1 away for a chat with another mummy, leaving said 3yr old alone by car. Child got bored, pony was apparently digging a bit (also bored?) so child was smacking pony with some force over the head with someone elses whip & shouting 'no'.

Pony DID have nasty marks over forehead & down nose & muzzle. Wish I'd been able to dish out the same to child, but went in & removed whip & child from close proximity to panicking pony. Beggars belief that none of the other parents around saw it (nobody 'apparently' did!)

Needless to say, words were had with parent...........

Good luck in getting your point across OP :)

oh dear =/ how awful. it makes you wonder where they get it from though! i hope the pony makes a full recover anyway.

eta - OP didnt say there was a 'weapon' involved and i assumed the pony was loose in the field which is why i couldnt imagine it

There are stones etc in field that are easy enough to pick up. Plus my horses are friendly i tack them up in field with no head collar on etc as they just come and stand next to you they love people. So it is very easy for anyone to go near them.

Little bast*ard had better be grateful it's not a different horse that would have just kicked it out of the field.

Anyway, now I've got that out of my system, just wanted to say that I hope your chat works as it sounds like you have somewhere v reasonable that works well for you.
