OH commented this evening on the deterioration in our elderly Ridgeback Lola. It looks as if the time to make the decision to have her PTS isn't going to be too far off now.

I wondered if anyone had an idea of cremation costs for a 5/6 stone dog? We have never kept any of our dogs remains, they have been left at the vets and that is it, but Lola is special, my dog of a lifetime and I adore her. I don't want to let her go :(

So, any idea of costs - I have to talk my unsympathetic OH into letting me keep her ashes.

So sorry to hear this, its an awful thing to face but we owe it to them not to let them suffer. Can't advise on cremation costs but sure others will be able to, have you considered burying her in your garden. I have several of my oldies in the garden, with their resting places marked with shrubs or flowers.

Not sure, think Cayla would have an idea though.

When our last bitch died in 2008 we were quoted £40 for PTS and cremation, £90 for PTS, cremation and return. I decided not to have her returned, to me, her body was just a shell that her spirit came in and I'm not one for keeping ashes of anyone or anything, I have all their old collars, leads etc, that's enough for me.
Bitch before that was buried at the vet's farm.

When Badger (our dog of a lifetime) was pts we brought his body home and buried him in the garden. We always planned to plant a tree where he is buried - possibly a flowering cherry as they flower the month he died - but never actually got round to that unfortunately :(

Do you have to have Lola cremated? Could you not just bury her? I am glad that I did that with Badger. xx

I paid £400 last year to have Alan (Labrador) PTS, cremated and returned to me. I know what you mean about having them back home, he's sleeping on the shelf next to his best friend Sam.

Sorry I am a soft old bunny hugger!
