Had to get done at yard quite early this eve due to the lights not working and no one being in a hurry to fix them. (Stables are inside a barn)

Went up to sort ned out for the night and was just out the back getting straw when I noticed my ned was lame!!!! Went to have a look at why he was lame cut or something and found a small cut on the back of his leg so was no too worried. Carried on putting bed down and went to get him in. He was quite lame took his boots off (he is a self harmer at best of times so goes out with boots and overreach boots) and was

to find a chunk of his hoof missing under his overreach boots!!

YO comes down and just went oh and walked off!!!!! Thats it she didnt bother looking at it, asking what he had done it on or anything.

I hosed it to clean the mud out of it and thought I would bring him in and put him in one of the spare stables so I could have a good look at it as I had put my bed down and didnt want straw sticking to it. She then has a go and shuts the stable door and said you cant out him in there!!

So any how washed it cleaned it and put powder over it as wasnt really sure what to do with it.

Went round field to see if I could find what he had done it on and it was bloody pig wire fencing which I hate!!

I am at my whits end being put in that field all the time I hate the field as all that happens is my horse gets hurt in it!!

What should I do about his hoof? I am going to go up the yard in the morning with my head lamp and see how it is. I dont really want to put him out tomorrow as he will get muck in it again. Not 100% if he needs the vet but may call them just in case.

Sorry so long.

Cookies for those who made it to the end

You need to have a good look at it in better light. Generally though i wouldnt use wound powder, wounds should be kept moist for better healing.

Your YO sounds like a tw*t. Any chance you could move?

No one better knows about feet then your farrier! I would call him out to have a look! He will be able to tell you if any damage has been caused, and if treatment needed, how to treat it! xx

You don't sound happy where you are, and rightly so. If you can't get on where you are, it's maybe time to move on xx

Another idiot YO post. Why do these people run lviery yards if they cannot be bothered about the health and comfort of the animals they are paid money to provide facilities for?

Thanks for your replies. I lost internet connection last night so only just able to get back online.

I have been up this morning with my head lamp to sort of muck out and check his hoof. Still minging really. I wasnt sure what to put on it last night all I could find in the dark was wound powder. Got my light this moring to get to my first aid box.

I wasnt 100% if I should put his out today as I dont want him getting loads of crap in it.

Vet or Farrier? Farrier may be harder to get hold of

Farriers first as they are hoof specialists.
I would also tell yard owner fencing needs fixing or you will be passing on all vet/farrier bills that incur due to your horse being injured due to her appalling fencing. If she still ignores you move time i think

You can't charge the YO for damage caused by the pig fencing, if it was there when you moved in and you consented to your horse being turned out in the field. Different if it's dangerous because it's broken maybe.
I agree, call the farrier.
