We tried to put our mare into foal at the end of last August. She had foaled as a 3yr old shes now 11. We had fresh semen but unfortunately just missed her cycle and had to wait for the next.Lots of follicles but when the largest popped no egg .She went onto regumate for a short time then a a second shipment of semen was tried but we were told she was not in foal and that she had transitioned and to leave it till this year .
In February she had a small loss of blood and upon examination we were advised not to try and put her in foal this year as she had varicose veins in her vagina and if any bleeding occurred suring insemination the semen would be contaminated and become useless.(This is a frustration as whilst we had NFFR this only applies in the subsequent year)
She has shown one cycle this year that I'm aware of.Shes put on weight and there are times when her abdomin bulgesout on on one side or the other.protruding veins on the underside of her belly and lots of gurgling to be heard from within whilst shes eating.Producing milk but thats normal for her and may be because of what she eats(Regularly on linseed and field full of clover)If the pregnancy had been confirmed she would be 10mths by now.I've searched the web and can find no example of ovulation having been missed and given all the procedures involved at an AI centre I'm sure I must be mistaken. it could be a false pregnancy maybe . Any one got any ideas.I will ask the vet to palpate but feel such an idiot as I'm sure its probably wishful thinking!
