Does anyone else think that there are not so many loaners available this season? I have seen a real drop in loan ponies/horses in the last few weeks which is very annoying as I am now looking for a long term loan. Do you think that people would rather sell due to the finiancial situation ATM?
I am soo frustrated as I have a paddck/stable waiting for a family type pony but can I find one to fill it? lol
Is it the time of year? have I missed the boat do you think. I would hate to think I have to wait until winter now. :(

I am also looking and have seen 2 and been offered several more but all bar one have been mental/ancient or 200 miles away!

I am struggling to find anything even worth seeing tbh

Good luck!

You too! Or they are 50 miles away and to stay at current yard, or to share. I just got excited as I found one on Redwings site, but its already under offer. bummer. :(
My livery space is still empty :( I had better start saving harder.

I totally agree. I had been looking for a long term loan horse for a while, and either as you say, they were psycho, dangerous, decrepid, youngsters that were just broken so the owners wanted to loan them out and have someone do the hard work and then take them back. or they were to share, or stay at current yard.
I have to admit that i gave up and bought my own. In the time i had been looking i had saved enough.
The loans that did come up all let me down last min, i was on route to one when they rang to say they had changed their mind, bearing in mind i was part way though a 4 hour journey.

There seems to be so few at the mo and it seems that a lot of them are time wasters.

I really hope you find something soon but keep saving the pennys whilst you are looking and you never know you may be able to buy one :-) good luck x

Same problem here, looking, looking, looking and I dont mind if its a bit mental as long as its a good size and has the potential to do what I want.
All the adds seem to be stating MUST be kept on current yard which as I live in the middle of nowhere, (well West Yorks) does present a bit of a problem or to share £50 for 3 days a week!!!!!
And the ones Iv seen have either messed me about (one thought references from my vet, my farrier, a master saddler, a physiotherapist, previous yard owner, Master of the Hunt and 2 members of the CHAPS council, my 30 years of experience and a degree in Equine Science werent enough) I did feel like screaming its your horse I want to loan, not your first born :-) or theyve changed their minds completely at the last minute.

I have a horse i want to put on loan part time but have been put of by past experience of loaners - i think alot of owners are reluctant due to some loaners being unreliable or not caring enough of their horses. I know that doesnt apply to all loaners but its a big risk to take for which the horse will have to pay the price if it goes wrong. Honestly i was hoping to find someone word of mouth but its not been happening!

I have a horse that belongs to a friend who is working abroad. He was out on loan for nearly 2 years and to her horror when she was out last Christmas he was skin and bone and the loanee turned around and said well its winter (it was beginning of Dec) and he is old (16) and he is TB!!. She also said she didnt want him anymore so he came to me for TLC. Even through winter and with just normal food and good rugging this horse has completely turned around thank goodness as he was so depressed. We also found out that every one had been riding him. He will be part loaned out again but he will def stay at my yard as I cannot bear to think of him going through that again. (The loaner was a livery yard owner and had good references but just lost interest I think at some point). I am not biased in anyway I have loaned horses myself in the past but this poor boy is staying with me now. Perhaps others have similar reasons. I hope you do manage to find something to loan though :)
