as above!.. have a 15hh eventer and small companion.. have a 2 acre paddock.. is it worth sectioning it off?? keeping the big one in.?? feeding hay?? cant really do livery as simply cannot afford it! 
not much grazing left

also.. i know this may sound very stupid.. can you get white hair dye? .. if so.. put it on socks?
with my old WHP he had scars on his front legs and his old owner dyed them blonde to whack up the confirmation points!

I would section off when the spring comes so that majority can grow back and then strip graze. Til then, not sure what state is of your paddock but try to not get it trashed, if roots don't get trashed though the grass will come back fine in the spring. You can always reseed then and/ or use fertiliser?! This was done at my old yard where we had limited amount of grazing. Worked not great but ok and got us through. Meant a lot of hay in the winter though, too.

I'm sectioning mine off and keeping them off a small area - simply so there will be some grazing come spring. I have 3 on 4 and a half acres - and sometimes this seems not enough
The white dye you can get is zinc oxide - you can buy it from farm stores. It is sold under the name of sheep face whitener. Basically you mix it with water and paste it on the white bits (don't worry if you smudge it onto the dark bits though), leave to dry (overnight) and brush off in the morning.

Am I being dim witted here or something .... but you have a 15hh EVENTER and you aren't already feeding hay?!!!!
If it's in work like that it should be fed something if it's out on just grass at this time of year.

Could you have them out of the day and in at night OP. You mention about bringing the big one in. I'd bring them both in to give the land a bit of a rest overnight, or during the day if that worked better for you. And plenty of hay. The last thing you need is your eventer getting ulcers and the like through lack of fibre.

thanks.. he is fed, dont worry..on,ly in light work now...(im at school) .. a slice of hay in the day and 2 feeds!! .. i might bring midget in at night as well then!

I feel your pain. I have a 16h and a 14.2 on just over 2 1/2 acres and they seem intent on using it as a racetrack because they can't be bothered to graze the small amount of grass left. I am at the point of pulling my hair out as it is starting to resemble a ploughed field. I am feeding them hay and strip grazing the last of the grass and only letting them out for 8 hours and that is now going to be reduced to 6 hours as they are spending most of their time playing and rug ripping is now their latest game. Sliding stops and flat out galloping in circles is not the best for maintaing any level of grazing.
I shall have to reseed in the spring and fertlise it all. And just pray that it recovers.
I'm also considering sectioning them off into a small area on some of the rougher grass which they generally don't eat but know that they will just trash this area also.
If only it would stop raining and dry up!

Well, just to add to the problems I went back home at lunchtime to get them in as the weather is awful and found that they had spent the entire morning galloping around the field having a go at each other so not only is the field now completely trashed but they both have ripped each others rugs as well.
I'm not very happy! This weekend they will both be fenced into two very small areas and kept seperated. They will just have to eat hay all winter.

What i do is give most of my grazing for winter so i dont feed loads of hay and keep about acre and strip graze to mud in summer but mines a fattie but they come in everynight summer and winter but my field doesnt get boggy

What about yarding? My two are on about 2.75 acres which is now split into three sections. One part is resting, the second is being trashed and they are strip grazing into the thrid part if that makes sense. They have access to the yard and stables at all times and haylage available to encourage them to stay in the dry. If the weather gets really wet I can shut both in and divide the yard in two with a line of tape. That way they each have a stable and section of yard to potter round in.
