Hi all, self pity type post coming up, just need to get it out there.
First off I'm ill with flu/tonsilitis so not feeling ideal. Then had a farrier out to trim my boy on monday, one of the people on the yard recommended him so though why not. He cut too much off, too quickly and now he is lame/footsore and spends all night lying down to take the weight off. He was going out in the day as the ground is soft enough for him but this morning I got a call from one of the girls who is turning them out today and he has a cut on one leg and its the size of a tree trunk. Vet is coming out later today to see him so he's staying in today feeling sorry for himself.
Anyone else having a rubbish week?!
 
Ouch! What a week for you and your poor horse *sigh*, I can only offer sympathy and hope that you both soon gets better.

And just in case you need to hear it, try not to blame yourself for using that farrier, he was recommended to you, so right then and there, it seemed like a good choice, regardless whether what happened is due to that the farrier had a bad day or because he actually isn't that good, you would of course not have used him if you had known about the outcome in advance.


Besides that I sometimes have considered drilling a hole somewhere around the top of my nose to see if it would provide some relief to the pressure in my sinuses, I think my week have been okay.

Update! Still lame and reluctant to walk and trot up for the vet. On Bute for a week and if the swelling doesnt go down then he will be on antibiotics too (what I was expecting to hear really). Keep in for a few days to rest the load and then start walking in hand as soon has he's comfortable and then short periods of turnout, keeping the cut clean and washed when bringing in. Have been advised to cut out previous feed (high energy ccompetition type feed) as the starch could make the swelling worse (and he's also in all he time now so not using all that energy) and switch to hidi/fibre cubes type feed to put his meds in. So now comes the challenge of keeping a usually fit horse that's turned out and excersized daily, occupied... ;)
 
Yes can defiantly sympathize, my week has been dismal,firstly owner of our new loan pony took her back suddenly on mon breaking my girls heart, weds my washer broke and flooded my kitchen spoiling my fav going out trousers, then today to top it all off heard from my insurance company (some theiving toad stole my car in jan) when they finally decide to talk about how much they will pay me out they will be holding £1000 back to clear premium (only renewed end of dec) so i will have a years insurance paid for but little to spend on new motor unless go back on finance grr grr grr. Hope your horse is feeling much better next week and doesn't need the antibiotics :)
 
Thank you for the update, even though it could have been better news.

About the box rest, when searching for a thread that I vaguely remembered, where someone mentioned hanging up turnips, swedes ( ;) ) and parsnips to entertain their horse, I came across this other thread where there is also several other good suggestions Coping for boxrest - advice and tips please! .

not my week either but all from other peoples misfortune. OH had a log fly out of a spliiter and hit him in the face cue broken nose and stitches to hold his lip back together. lady he was working for rushed round to help and caught her leg on a door, 10 stitches and ten steri strips .
following morning friends husband run over and killed, leaves her with three kids 2,4 and 7 one of which is disabled . three equines and a farm
this morning a pc friend lost her fight against cancer . kids lost their dad 2 years ago.
just having a large glass and hoping this year can only get better. wish i could have changed things for them all ,
 
Thanks, sorry didnt mean to hijack, just ended up letting it all pour out. OH wont be losing his good looks , he didnt have any so as long as sinus not damaged he was blooming lucky, never even broke his glasses or lost any teeth so should all heal ok !! perhaps he will start wearing protective clothing now !.
