hey all,

well autumn now not been worked for a week and half due to coming up in massive hives all over - some of them are huge and are doughnut shaped and feel quite warm! She had something similar last summer which we attributed to a change in shampoo. This time however nothing has changed! When the lumps came up I hadnt washed any of her stuff, not changed her feed, bedding etc so im baffled as to what it is. They have gone down slightly now but not gone yet. I've swapped her from her HW nz to a mediu weight one as the temps have risen a bit and didnt want her getting to hot not helping things! Vet has suggested a steriod injection ONLY if they start oozing or anything which they havent looked like doing for a minute. he also said he wouldnt bother with allergy tests etc because they hardly ever comme up with a definative answer.

So I suppose my question is, is there anything else I can do? or anything the supplement her diet which will help her get rid of them? apart from being horrid for her (although actually she seems unaffected) its a bloomin nuisance as its interuppted training and competing!

I would bath her in Malaseb and then cut her hard feed out 100% until it goes down.

Have you recently had a new hay bale or put a new bale of shavings in her bed etc?

If that doesn't work and the weather stays nice I would be tempted to leave her out 24/7 for a while to eliminate anything in her stable.

It sounds like it's dietry! Possibly protein lumps, if there is a possibility of it being protein lumps be very careful they can develop into a type of fungal infection if they aren't treated!

Just use common sense! If in doubt get the vet out!

My guy has just recovered from an allergy! Poor chap was miserable! The lumps then dried up and flaked, which made him rub at them even worse. So I bought some dream cream from Lush (it's made for psoriasis etc) and it seems to have helped him!
