Just wondering what you would all do. I bought a bridle about two months ago now that came with a bit but the bit it came with was to big so the owner of the tack shop said they would swap it for a smaller one and have it ready a few days later. I have been several times in the past eight weeks only for them to keep saying they haven't managed to look yet. I feel like they just can't be bothered. I didn't pay much for the bridle but it just bothers me that they are not making any effort in getting me a bit as it was included in the price. Should I just forget about it? As its not worth the hassle? Or would you be firm and say you need it now its been two months? I also need to return a girth they sold but said I can return if it doesn't fit but they never seem to be open, you need to call before hand it's just a small tack shop that sells used and new stuff and it's next to my livery yard. I'm just annoyed really..i won't be shopping there again. I also went a few times for johdpurs and a blanket only to get there to be told they don't have any or cant find it.. after already saying we were coming for them.

I've never heard of a bit coming with a bridle? Bitting is so very technical and needs an awful lot of research and trial and error. I'd just let it go, and separately purchase the correct bit for your horse. There are excellent bit banks where you can trial bits and then purchase the right one.

Its a place that sells new and used tack. So I got a used leather bridle with a bit and reins.that was included but they said they would swap the bit because it wasn't the right size. I told them what type and size the horse needs so wasn't just having anything as I know the perfect fit for everything is important. :)

If it's a secondhand tackshop they may not have the right bit in stock and they can't just order it in like you can new. I would suggest that if they don't have it, they give you a credit note for the proportion of the price that was for the bit that you can use against something else. Then you can get the bit from somewhere else.

I think I’d purchase the right bit and sell on the unwanted one. Life is short and chasing it is taking up your time.

Yes, bits are easy enough to sell on FB Marketplace, and if you know exactly what you want and don't mind keeping an eye on eBay etc for a couple of weeks, you can probably find what you need for under £50, assuming it's not incredibly specialized. My horse's bit is from eBay. I tried everything on the yard that was the right size and (with help from YO) worked out what he went best in.

Count yourself lucky you're not looking for a saddle (cue hysterical laughter and much hair tearing)!!

I already spent weeks saddle shopping finding something the right size and just bought an ideal gp saddle. I don't mind buying a new bit it was just annoying that I had bought a bridle and the price included a bit and they said they wod have the size and type bit I needed ready in a few days and it's been two months. As others had said I think just forget about it and not shop there again. X
