not standing in 505 trailer

Anybody got any advice to cure 15 2 gelding that wants to rest against the side or centre partion when traveling in trailer. As sooon as he feels motion of the box he lowers his hind quarters and trys to wedge himself rather than standing tall and moving his legs.
13 2 mare that travels with him does not move so can't can't blame driving. 5mph round slight bend causes him to panic in the box. Loads and unloads 100%
 
i know kings cross likes to lay down when he's traveling.... so he needs two partitions! lol but i suppose that doesnt help you... i have no idea actually :s
 
Yep, my 14.2hh cob did the same thing only she use to climb the wall and one day wedged herself in.
I took the partision out and never had any problems since. I put in a breast bar which was good.. I think i had all this problem because my cob use to try and spread her legs and found the space too narrow. I wished I bourght the 510 rather than the 505 as its so much more room. I did try the partision again to see if she would have resolved this but did the same thing again, soooo i always travelled her without partition. I had no problems in a lorry!!!
 
do you travel 2 horse in 505 with no partition or just 1. We have tried him on his own with no partion and he is much better but we now have 2 to travel and not sure of solution
 
my horse started dong this, a friend picked him up and travelled him with the reversing brake on, it was obvious she wasnt slowing down enough when she had to either stop or go round bends.
By the time he got back to the yard he was in a right state absolutly dripping in sweat

he used to lean on the partition and go up the sides, we had to drive really slow or he would go in to panick mode, was worse when we went round bends.
He was much better when we removed the partition.
For the first time in about 7 yrs we traveled him with one of my others a few months ago and he was as good as gold.
With allot of time patience it is possible to get their confidence back.

Jigsaw couldn't travel in my hb505 with the partition in, so just used to take partition out and travel him on his own! Hence the reason we sold the trailer and bought the lorry, so i can take both horses out on the same day to compete

I will probably get shot down, but we used to travel our ponies in a trailer with no partition, and have also travelled horses in cattle wagon with 2 horses and then seperater bar. Intheory if the driving is good and they travel well it shouldnt make much difference, however I would recommend you buy at least a breast bar!
 
Finni does the same, no matter how much room he has. He wedges himself against the ramp in the lorry!

Am I missing why it is a problem if your horse leans against things? Does he travel ok apart from that?
 
We had to take the partition out of our 510. Murph used to lean so hard against the partition he rubbed himself sore! He is much better now cos he can spread his legs but still leans against the nearside of the trailer which makes it handle rather strangely! He is cross tied, loosely, and we have a breast bar. We also travel him in a comfort zone travel rug which is padded at pressure points and is great. It is a pain though cos we would sometimes like to take our 13h pony to shows for veteran classes but can't.
 
I think you are probably going to have to come to terms with the fact that you can only travel one at at a time either that or get a lorry.

Personally I wouldnt go down the road of travelling two with no partition. I have seen the damage that a fallen horse has done to the one remaining standing - his legs were shredded by the fallen horse trying to get back up - she thrashed about cutting him to ribbons.

The horse is trying to tell you he needs more room.
