I have my boy up for sale, I brought him a couple of years ago as a 4 yr old and have brought him on slowly, been to local shows, plaeasure rides etc he is a gem but I have been offered a ride on anouther horse so to help save some money I have decided to sell him - huge tears!!

I brought him for £6k 2 years ago and have put him for sale at £5250 due to the market being what it is. He is a ISH dapple grey 16'2 nd ready to go on to next level

I had a lady call about the ad saying he was jsut what she was looking for but may be to far away would talk to her hubby. She then text saying her budget is £3k would I accept that. Not sure how to take the text as she has not even been to see him. I replied saying se needed to be nearer £5K. Is this just a sign of the market or someone trying there luck

When you say he is ready to go on to the next level, in what?
Does he have a competition record? Has he competed affilliated?

Id say 3k is fair for a horse with no comp record.

How was he valued at 6k when you bought him?

There have been loads of threads on here over the last few weeks about how horses are just not selling... its a buyers market ATM, lots of people are desperate to sell and open to taking cheeky offers!

I don't really think it is cheeky, if she only has 3k then it's not worth travelling to see him if you won't accept this I guess. She is asking you to reduce a lot but I have to say I think her price is far more realistic than yours I'm afraid.

I thinks its sort of cheeky as its a big drop, but if you dont ask you dont get!
You might say yes so it would be worth her asking.

Also how did you come to the price.
I would say that if very over priced for what the horses has done.
Or else i have totally undervalued some of my horses!

I'm amazed that so many of you can value OP's horse without knowing a jot about it and not even having seen a picture...
I would say that £3K for something advertised at £5,250 is cheeky, but at least she didn't come over, ride the horse, take God knows how much of your time and then drop the bombshell;)
Market is nearly dead, but some horses are selling, what you do very much depends how much you feel you need to get rid.

To be honest i wouldn't even entertain phoning up about a horse if it was that much over my budget, it is a buyers market certainly but i do think an offer like that is taking the mick.

You would be cutting your losses there! At least she didn't waste your time.

Would it not be worth trying to give him some competition experience then you know your price is right?

Personally I think it is s bit cheeky, I mean I wouldn't call up about a house and say oh, I've only got 100k, so anychance you'd sell your 400k house for that? I mean, NO it's up for that for a reason.

Buyers market or not, means you get a deal... not daylight robbery.. LOL

Thing is, like anything. Ahorse (or house etc) is only worth what someone is prepared to pay for it. So if you are in no rush, then personally I would hang on in there.

Best of luck.x
