Dont get me wrong in the title, I don't despise, hate or having any problems with my new horse. But being short myself, i really miss always having ponies.

I thought it would be a nice change, so ive got a 16.1hh tb. But it's just no fun :/ I'm sounding mad aren't I? Well I just find I cant wrap my leg round and under, it's like holding a double decker bus togeather and it throws my position all sorts of terrible, slopply places. I find handling on the floor makes no difference in size, other than having to tip toe to plait... But riding is a different question. I was always told if you get a horse that's too small then you can throw yourself off balance easily, but didn't realise if you got one possibly too big you'd feel like a pea on a mountain. Ok ok so I'm over exagurating as it is all going very well, but why am I finding it so hard to adapt and enjoy ??? Feel a bad mum wishing such a lovely new horse could shrink >:(

This is the trouble with trying to kid yourself. Look where it's got you... On a mountain :D

I did this. Thought I had outgrown ponies and went for a 17.2 hunter. Nice chap. We had a blast but it was always a long way down when he caught me unawares. Three broken ribs was enough for me to downsize... 15.2 is perfect for me. Not pony, yet still a horse!!

I know what you mean, how tall are you? I am 5'11 and rather heavy so I pretty much HAVE to ride horses, but when I have been a bit lighter and could ride something like 14.2 I loved it! I do ride 15.1 at the moment for hacking which is a good height but when I buy I am probably going to go 16hh+ at least, just in case I get heavier! I hate not being able to get on from the ground and I don't really like big bouncy steps when I'm out even if it is meant to be a good thing!

Sometimes it can just be a case of getting used to the difference, I've seen lots of kids do the same moving up to a bigger pony, even when they are way too tall for the smaller & an ideal height for the next. But if you still feel the same after a few months with no progress, sell & buy something smaller, its too expensive a hobby not to enjoy.

I think it depends how short in the leg you are tbh - if very then anything too big will mean its nigh on impossible to give a useful leg aid, your centre of gravity is very high so more chance of pinging off aside from the obvious ouch when you get off!
