I've had my cob for 7 years and really can't find any boots that don't slip down. He doesn't need them. But do like to put them on for xc. I've tried loads of different types, brands and sizes to no avail. Yest I did a hunter trial and just put on fronts because the back ones had slipped just warming up. Any one else have this problem or not use boots at all?

People have been hunting for hundreds of years without boots. If he doesn't need them, and they slip down anyway - don't use them.

I never used boots on my ponies/horses when I was a kid/teenager. Never had a problem - I think we over-boot like mad nowadays.

Tinap. I haven't tried tape. So will give it a go.
Aus. I didn't use boots when I hunted but never plan to jump anything that big. I don't use them for anything else I just worry xc because jumps are solid etc. he's not delicate though. My preference would be to have something on even if its just fronts.

I would want xc boots, mainly not to protect from knocks to the front of the legs, but to protect the tendons in the front legs from strike injuries from back feet coming through.

Maybe I overboot but I would rather be safe than sorry.

What brands have you tried? Maybe we can suggest some others to try?

Sports medicine boots are the best I've found for front but still slip a little. I don't even remember all the brands I've tried. Friends lend them to me to see if they work they don't and I give them back. The front isn't as hard as the back. I've only really tried brushing boots so if there's other types of boots that might be suitable I'm open to suggestions.

I've always found that the lighter weight the boot the less likely it si to slip. Lightweight doesn't have to compromise protection- the best I've used are Style boots, which are super-tough, and don't seem to move at all.

If you're after cheap and cheerful - the Horze pile lined ones are mega cheap, and don't seem to shift at all. I got some for turnout, and although my horse manages to get virtually any boot down round his ankles faster than a tarts knickers, these don't shift.

I'd use bandages with a pad underneath, if you put them on correctly, and finish with tape, they shouldn't slip.

I don't put back boots on mine, he doesn't really like boots at all but for xc I do put fronts on, just open fronted tendon boots and some overreach. After having a pony break down team chasing and the get saying the taping of his boots could have caused it, I tend to steer clear from taping boots now.
