ADMIN- delete it please, its a pants post!!

Riding on the road= hard hat, schooling/jumping yes also.. riding a well schooled horse in a show class or in a arena should be up to the rider whether or not they choose to don what looks like a hollowed out tortoise, IMHO

And the billy goatgruff went "trippery trot" "treppery trot" over the bridge.... and the troll came out from under the bidge and said to the billy goat gruff "YOUR NOT WEARING A HAT" ! and billy goat gruff said "your qwakers, (his best mates a duck)"

I should know better than to post on this, but hey ho

to all those who say it should be their choice, I absolutely agree if they can afford the vast amount of money it would cost the NHS to fund the brain surgery and rehab, if they were to land on their heads, without a hat, also for the life long social care which they would require. The same argument used to be made before seat belts became compulsory btw.

Aah this wasnt your best first post. You could introduce yourself.... but I dont think you realise that this forum isnt for criticizing other riders for their traditions and seeing how many replies you could get cursing them. Sorry thats abit harsh I know your new and whatever but all Im saying is use this forum for advice and OTHERstuff.

Maybe a troll, but the matter still remains, it may be your head, but how selfish think of family, friends, cost to the NHS that may stop a critically ill patient getting treatment due to your vanity.

If everyone on here that doesnt wear a hat thinks they are such a good rider, then why arent we seeing them on the front page of H&H.

Personally I would never employ anyone whether an instructor, groom, trainer etc etc who showed such little horse sense as to not wear a hat, and certainly no one would ever sit on my horses that didnt, so a lot of you so called "professionals" out there would not get a shot of riding very decent horses. They are with people that show me a true sense of responsibility both for their safety and my horses.

i dont suppose getting a rosette is that dangerous in the showjumping pics when they have prob just jumped a gran prix course

Agree totally. Agree also that a troll started the post.

Ahhh - now if we're going down this road imagine how much cash we could save the NHS and trauma we could save our anguished families and friends if we never rode or handled horses at all and simply took up knitting or crochet instead?

That was the same argument given by the motor bike riders and the non seat belt wearing folk until the law was changed. If that argument is valid to you, then presumably you feel that builders etc. should not use scaffolding, but continue to use ladders, the ABS and crumple zones should be removed from cars etc.etc.
Hope you are never in the position of having a severe head trauma, it really is not a pretty sight.

I'm suprised at how many people have taken this seriously, as in to mean the OP is anti-riding without hats.

To me they're making a very funny, slightly sarcastic point - that all these people ride without hats, and we don't criticise that.

Isn't it obviously sarcastic?!
