So after convincing myself the big youngster was a wobbler, the vet thinks probably not, though not ruling it out totally. We did find lameness on the left hind after flexion though. There was also a very small, hard to detect swelling just below the patella. Maybe some degree of fixation? A weeks bute trial has made no difference, and I can still see hindquarter dipping on a level surface at walk.
Current thinking is let him grow more before starting work, he is out 24/7 anyway. Vet wanted him lungeing for further obs so I'm doing a few minutes a day but dont want to overdo it. He was previously long reining until I convinced myself he was neuro! Experiences of stifle/patella issues in youngsters anyone?

There's quite a few things about wobblers on YouTube which might help you if you think your horse has wobblers. https://www.google.co.uk/#q=youtube+neuro+exam,+wobblers

He could have EHV which shows as a nuero problem, he may have also suffered a truamatic injury which can manifest as a neuro problem. I hope you get it sorted out, the only way you can rule it out is to have xrays on the neck or a myelogram.

This link is quite interesting. Hopefully its not wobblers.
