Nottingham Mounted Police

I think it's sad. Mounted police are a nice sight in a city centre, horses can make police more approachable - sort of an icebreaker to the general public. And though I'm not a police officer I also can't think of a place I'd rather be if I were caught up in a riot or a football crowd!
But horses are expensive and I guess they aren't getting rid of them without due consideration.

That's very sad.
They are indeed an icebreaker.
I used to live in Nottingham and have many (embarassing) memories of being off my face, staggering over to the horses to give them a stroke and regale the coppers with my horsey tales.

Same :o always thought they did a great job especially late nights when they were often enough to calm rowdy situations by their mere presence.

I also remember one being used to barricade the double doored exit of the pub next to the station (name of which escapes me) with it's bum to keep a load of drunken Millwall fans inside while they waited to go to the football ground  :D

They do a fantastic job and will be much missed I'm sure.

I think it would be s shame. We have a large mounted section in Avon & Somerset and they do a brilliant job - PR and policing. £93k is nothing either in terms of the police budget. The staff will still be employed just relocated I presume.
