As above really. Just looking for new fun ideas for our show. Have thought of bareback, Pairs, horse & dog, horse & human and top score. Any suggestions welcome - emphasis on fun please
Mini major relax like Olympic with maybe a junior and senior rider. Also two riders against each other riding mirror image courses. Eventers challenge if you have access to some working hunter type fences
Like horse and dog idea - years ago, my old mare and I would school round a team chase course with gritted teeth and closed eyes while the dog flew the fences with a grin on his face!
Not sure about health and safety though!
What about a variant on skill-at-arms - say having to pluck a balloon or a (large) feather as you go over?
We used to do jumping with a glass of water - start with a full glass and see how much you have left after the course. You do need horses which are happy to have water poured down their necks!! Depending on the age of the participants, water could be switched for wine...
Horse and human sounds good fun... how about horse verses human?
Enjoy!
Easy to build and surprisingly difficult to ride. Build about seven jumps in a zig-zag line down the centre of your arena. Riders pick their own line and have 40 seconds (or whatever time limit you decide) to jump as many fences as possible. They can jump each fence twice, each fence can be jumped from either side. The winner is the rider who jumps the most fences in a clear round. If there is a tie, have a jump off on a course decided by the judges. It is terrific fun.
I went to a comp where we had a ride and drive jumping comp. Went round on the horse then had to jump in a car and be driven through some cones with tennis balls on. Did follow me fred as well. Effectively chase me charlie as a double. 3 fence challenge, top score(with a joker fence of course), horse and hound, ride and run, pairs relay and of course the old bucket elimination! All ideas, can you tell I used to like jumping a lot as a child....oh and fancy dress jumping!
Thanks everyone for your suggestions, don't think I'd volunteer my car for the driving one though!!! Liking the big pants idea though - we could call them the 'brave' pants haha
