I am doing my first novice ( 27) in about 4 weeks on my 17h Irish Draught. Any advice or tips or indeed experience of how it is on a larger horse would be greatly appreciated

Watch some videos of people riding the test on youtube. I find it really helpful to see how the test flows.

....as it is in the small arena (I think?), you will need to be aware of preparing for the movements in plenty of time, as 17hh of ID can be a bit unwieldy at times!

I used to compete as far as elementary on the horse in my avatar; he's an 18.1 clydesdale. A 17hh ID should be a walk in the park 😂
When riding a big horse lots of preparation for every movement and use every inch of the school. But mostly, just enjoy yourself. Your first novice is just a test of your training so far, well done for being ready to try the step up.
