So I'm new to Novice, so apologies if this is a really stupid question, but as a newbie trying to learn I thought I'd ask your advise - The test reads "Between X & B Transaction to working Canter Right. B Turn Right. - now my question is: how do you ride it? Do you (1) ride the X to B as a straight line then curve to the Right at B, or do you ask for transition to canter on a curve from just after X? (I really hope this makes sense to someone!)

You're already on a two loop serpentine and the end of the serpentine would take you to B. So it's a straight line from X to B with a canter transitions anywhere between the two markers, followed by a square right turn at B onto the track. Does that help?

I think 35's being scrapped so you may not have to ride it again!

Thank you everyone - I am worrying slightly as it's for a championships, I'm not expecting miracles, but I don't want to drop silly little marks.

But typical that it's being scrapped soon :)

It's the ROR Novice test I know that much :)

The actual movements aren't too bad, but it's just so awkward and fiddly. Feels like you never really get going?!

Yes you can.

As for the canter strike off... ride it to suit your horse. If your horse will do a beautiful upwards transition on a straight line and then a nice square turn as you reach the track then perfect. If rounding the corner helps then do that. I used to with my young horse and always got good marks. I'm sure they would have been even better if I rode the line 'correctly' however I ride tests to keep the flow and to make it encouraging for the horse.
