I am off to my first show with Tia, and I am doing either the Novice Showing (Ridden) or Novice Handler (In Hand) and have a few questions:

1. Would I get away with a black jacket in both? (This is at local level)

2. For an Individual show (Ridden) would something along these lines be ok:
- Halt infront of judge and salute
- Walk away
- Trot figure of eight
- Proceed to Canter figure of eight
- Canter down the long side
- Go back to trot then walk
- Halt and Salute

Is ^ that too much/complex/simple? We are not allowed to gallop so can't put that in there (Which is probably a good thing as Tia goes into racehorse mode and I sometimes struggle to stop!)

Thank you!

For local level a black jacket would suffice, if you could borrow a tweed it would be best though :), and remember shirt and tie no stocks!

Show sounds great, try to make it as balanced and smooth as you can. Does it say you are to preform a show of your own choice? As keep in mind the judge could do a set show too.

Good luck x x

Judges always seem to like short and sweet, so the shorter the better IMO. I wouldn't trot an entire figure of eight, I know some people do but I think it wastes so much time - I was showing yesterday (and also did a novice horse class) and I'd say most walked away, then trotted straight to the track, crossed diagonal in trot and then asked for canter as got to the track and did the usual canter figure of eight. We were asked to lengthen so did so after the figure of eight. I think only one girl did a trot figure of eight. Remember, they're already seen you on the go-round and I find the longer you make your show the bigger chance there is of making a mistake!

It's local, I'm sure you can wear a black jacket especially for a novice class. Good luck!

Thank you all. I am going to practice our show tomorrow. Perhaps I will try MagicMelon's suggestion as Tia can get a bit bored with a lot of trotting!!!
