Now if I had a heavier almost cob-like horse...

Surely, now that you may (or may not) have accidently bought a large cobby horse (well, it's quite dark at nights now and blinding with all the snow during the day so an easy mistake to make) you will only be using it for fattening for meat? And therefore doesn't need a rug?

Best bet for big necks is a standard rug with a detachable neck. Plenty of suggestions for the rug - just have rings attached if they're not already. I found weatherbeeta amplying big enough for our rhinousosaurous heffalump.
 
I'm watching this thread with interest having just bought a larger chested native. Currently in a Masta (was all I had that fitted) but it could be better fitting at the front, tho the neck cover is perfect for a chunky neck.

Horseware brands are way too mini-skirt like - I couldn't even do the belly straps on my rhino wug round my connie!

I tried a friend's weatherbeeta orican on and that was better so I think I'll be opting for one of these. Fal have also been recommended to me.

if you're not looking outsized rugs try Axiom off ebay - they're a great cut for wide deep horses and the only so far I've not had to move the chest straps down on.
 
I'm sure that this horse of a more solid than TB type has just strayed into Shil's yard and being a kind hearted person she just needs a rug for it til she can return it to its rightful owners.....................

Masta did a range a few years ago for big bodied horses.... Seperate to their standard range. they were a lot deeper and broader in every direction! ;)

but no dont think thats it.. shils mentioned hers was a "big" one.. I suggested hogging, and showing as a maxi cob, she went off line. :rolleyes:
 
Rambo XL fits my big ISH ginger beastie :D who obviously is in the same category as your hypothetical beastie :rolleyes::D However not sure they do a stable rug as mine is their turnout but is breathable. Point to note the neck cover is generous in depth as Pidge has a huge depth of neck and lots of neck covers just don't even fasten :eek: Prefer this to the WB as I bought a 7'3" built in neck cover outdoor breathable rug (370g) but not as good IMO as the rambo.
Will have a mooch and see if I can find anything.

hm. However in that picture, to be fair it is so fat you would struggle to tell. It might be 17hh. Or she bought something that was on snow stilts at the time of purchase :p:D
 
Fal or Rambo's range for the larger horse is what used to be worn by my friends similarly large beastie.

Isn't said large cob type horse more of the secret variety rather than the hypothetical? I think I saw a picture once....
 
I had the same question a few months ago, and despite still being unsure, I brought an Amigo with detachable neck cover, and it fits beautifully! Would definately recommend! And you can't beat a Horseware rug IMO.
I didn't get the Amigo XL, but if hypathetical horsey is VERY chunky then I'd give one a shot.
 
Shils has not only bought a draught horse, but she has clipped it too. We might as well all give up and go home as the last bastion against the big, fat hairies with fluffy feet topples...

Weatherbeeta all the way. They fit both my cob and my warmblood.

Did I not mention I have a cob and a warmblood? I must therefore be exempt from criticism on this forum then.

No the warmblood is not chunky, she is very elegant and pretty and the cob is not hairy, he is clipped and trimmed, not ploddy and extremely handsome.
 
equestrian clearance have a special "big boy/big girl section" think Evans for horses....
actually - my 17hh coloured cob has a couple of spare stable rugs - but would that be a step too far for you:)
