i was just wondering how you fit in riding with feeding hard feed in the evenings. My mare is coming out of full livery. they would ride her during the day so not a problem regards feeding but I am working full time so if I am to ride her during the week it would be later in the evening after they normally feed in the yard. I was wondering how poeple fit everything in. i could ask them not to feed her the days I want to ride but that doesn't really seem fair as the other horses will have been fed around her.

Any suggestions?

She will soon get used to it!Failing that get them to throw some carrots in her feed bowl, least she then thinks she has had something!

Could you not ask the yard to either not feed her (seems a bit cruel if everyone else is being fed) or to make sure she is one of the first fed and as long as you allow an hour I'm sure that its ok to ride her afterwards

When I was on full I either rode an hour after feed time at 5pm (wasn't often I got there before 6) or just asked them to give him a handful and fed afterwards

thanks for that. yeah i wouldn't be at the yard unitil about 7 or 8 so she would easily have an hour between feeding and being ridden. I just feel guilty that she has had her dinner, in her PJs and all tucked up for the night and then nasty mommy comes along and asks her to work.

I am new to this whole lovery lark, had the luxury of my own stables the last time I owned a horse so was just wondering, if you ride in the evening, after dark and she gets all sweated up, do you wait until she is dry, then stick her stable rug on? Its just I would always sort her out for the night and stick a sweat rug on, give horse dinner and then head up for my own, then return to the uard about an hour later and swap the rugs. what do people with liveries do? Same question as regards very wet from rain.

Thanks and sorry about the cluelessness!
