I am dog sitting for my good friend and she has left me in sole charge of her beloved Springer Spaniel and left to excercise her other beloved 28 year old first horse

Well before she had even left the Country, YO needed to call the Vet for an Ulcer that had come up overnight on her Horse's eye ..... so now has 2 Vet call outs, plus treatment etc and another visit due next week ....

And oh my god ..... her beloved dog has had to got to an emergency Vet tonight for suspected grass seeds in her ear ....... so after having gas to sedate her (I could hear her yelping as Vet tried to remove it 'normally
crazy.gif
') ... they removed a HUGE seed embedded deeply in her ear ..... did not dare ask how much it would set her back .....

So my friend must be now dreading any texts from EAGLESTONE

but well done on you for getting the vet and hopefully the friend is prompt about reimbursing you for the bill for the dog

I'd let you look after D, you sound committed

I disagree, you would be someone I would trust to look after my animals even if the vets bills would be HUGE on my return from holiday!!!
I'd need another holiday to get over the shock!

Look on the bright side, on 2 occasions when I've house sat for afriend, all her chickens went down to a fox and I had to have her kids' rabbit put down!

Eaglestone when ever I've read your posts your always put the animal first, which is what I would want of anyone looking after my animals. I'd rather have a call out charge for nothing than a sick animal because someone waits. If in doubt call them out. Well done. You can look after my brood anytime.

I'd rather come home to a vet bill for a small thing than no bill but an animal in pain because no vet was called. I had a heart attack yesterday when a pony at work came in hopping lame... luckily only a small abscess and the farrier pared it out and that was that, but seeing the pony hopping lame made me immediately think "oh god what if I need to call the vet and my boss gets back and has a hopping lame pony and a huge vet bill!!"
It is worrying but it's sod's law that it all happens on your "watch"!

Oh thanks .... I just think how careful she has been and here I am presenting her with a Vet bill ..... but dog is snoring away and not a flick of an ear

in my opinion you've done the right thing and I'm sure your friend will appreciate you care shown to both the dog and horse.
imagine if you hadn't called the vet to either animal ??? now that would be cause for concern.
agree with everyone else well done !

Sounds to me like you have done a good job with her pets. These problems would have come up anyway without her being on her hols!!!
I am rabbit sitting at the mo, or should I say was beofre it ran away!!! Its my 6 year old neices and 4 year old nephews and my poor sister had the pleasure of telling them when she gets home tomorrow.

Thanks everyone

.... It just amazes me it's sods law that things can go so wrong, especially when my friend had organised everything so well, so no extra trouble was needed

.. BTW I am only responsible for the exercise of her Horse .... but at least he gets a cuddle from me daily .... I expect he can go out with his mask on for a little toodle about now tho
grin.gif

Halfpass ..... OMG you lost the Rabbit ..... I hope it turns up
