Not a lot. Looks like a polo pony to me?

The cavesson is doing nothing. The draw reins are on the standard snaffle part of a cheltenham (balding?) gag, and the second rein is fitted correctly.

Drop noseband pretty mild, standing martingale would prevent head tossing.

As with everything, there's a story, and dissected it's not a criminal set of tack.
 
So we have a polo pony (?) with a bit with two reins (inc. draw reins?), a cavesson noseband which I presume is there to form an attachment for what looks to be a standing martingale, and a dropped noseband to prevent the horse from opening his mouth. Not too sure on the fitting of the drop.

Can a standing martingale be attached to a drop? Or a flash used (I think that was the original reason for the invention of the flash noseband wasn't it?) if the result on the horse was the same - I know a dropped and a flash are different but similar. Mind you, I dislike both, so would whip them off, try different bits/riding tactics and keep the cavesson ;)

If the horse is comfortable, nothing rubs (I would question the bit guards with two nosebands fitting over/near them) and the combination works, then fine, good for them. :)
 
Standing martingale should not be attached to drop, hence the cavesson. I dont think the drop is too low, but I agree about the bit guards, a bit weird, however because of them being fitted like that the drop isn't particulary tight, and it will protect the corners of the mouth from the gag a bit.
 
Is it just me or is anyone more upset that the cheek pieces haven't been put in the keepers! Also I'm not able to look at the noseband (cavesson) without wanting to straighten it!
I'm weird.:o

Ditto on the noseband and keepers.
The only thing I hate is the draw reins on the snaffle, leaving no normal rein at all.
However pretty standard polo tack
 
Millreef- yes lol wouldn't it look much smarter with all those parts nicely tidied away!

This is just standard polo tack, all looks quite well fitting. Not all horses use running reins sometimes these are just normal reins, but depends on horse and rider obviously.

Me too, you're not weird ... *pedantic mode on* they 're runners, the keepers are the fixed ones just below the bridle buckles *pedantic mode off*. :D
I just hate seeing straps flapping loose.
 
There is a strap under the chin a bit like a curb but not made from chain. Apparently the horse really didn't like to be bridled and shook its head a lot. I saw it jump like this about a year ago, she bloomin' nearly won too!

the cavesson is doing something, the standing martingale is attatched to it :D


Yup standard polo tack. I worked at a polo yard and remember having a lesson on how to do up an argentine girth, it is literally a knot :O saddle stayed put mind!
 
awww you lot are just mean and not entering into the spirit of things:(

OP that is a ridiculous amount of tack on one horse and you obviously need to school endlessly in a snaffle until you can ride properly:p
There is that the kind of reaction you were hoping for;):)

:D Yes I totally agree! I have no idea why you can't play Polo in a snaffle - surely they just need more lessons to learn how to steer and stop with their seat - they shouldn't need to bridle their ponies in that way - very cruel...
 
Standard tack for a horse that needs to stop dead from a gallop, spin and gallop off in the other direction!

Someone once explained a difference in the horses of polo and polocrosse - in Polo the horses stop more on the front end, whereas in polocross the horses stop more on the back end - very simply put for someone who has only ever played a little polocrosse :p I don't really mind if people disagree but it helped me understand it and this guy knows what he is talking about!!
