NPA behind wwyd?

I'm desperate to turn mine out properly, I've asked YO when I can move them to another field. Hoping this weekend or next weekend, then she can go out as it won't be so boggy!
I did search one barefoot group on fb and found some info but again, lots of conflicting (strong) opinions, not based on fact/research, that I can see. I've ordered some scoot 3 degree wedged pads that can be cut to size for other boots... for the price of them, worth a try. Won't be for long anyway, just until she gets shod.
Yes, the pads are certainly worth a try. She may be more obviously comfortable straight away and then you will have valuable info.

It’s drying up 🥳 the foot, not the ground 🤬 have messaged farrier and waiting for him to get back to me to book in… hopefully early next week?! 🙏

Also, it struck me yesterday that B has lost her caramel blonde highlights. Is it just because there’s been no sun? I’m sure I’ve read that sun bleaching can be caused by mineral deficiency, she’s been on a high quality balancer since I had her. I guess we’ll see, if we get any decent sun this year..!
Last year, not long after I got her:

And yes I’m letting her mane grow out. More protection from flies in the summer and will make a pretty running plait if I ever feel the need to look smart 😂

Hi, just checking in how you are getting on?
I have had great success with sugar and iodine in the hole in the sole. Almost miraculous transformation from hobbling around to galloping round the field in 12 hours!
Also just purchased equine fusions for the hinds and just ridden out in them and she was absolutely bouncing!
We will see what the summer brings us! But very chuffed with the hind boots on first impressions xx

Oh yes hole in the sole is old news now. That was about 3 disasters ago. Sugar and iodine is indeed excellent. Glad yours is better. Had mine shod on Friday (earliest I could get farrier). Looking and feeling great. Buuuut…

She’s come in lame on her off fore tonight. Heat and swelling behind the cannon bone. Have cold hosed for about 20 mins, buted and am box resting, but she can’t see the other horses as they’ve moved fields now, so she’s not happy. Poor girl. Will know more tomorrow after the vet has been.

😭

Oh no! There is always something isn’t there!
I’ve been to hell and back with this hole in the foot and the mud. I am wise enough to not get too giddy about one good hack in the evening sun.
Good luck, hopefully yours is just a small blip and the vet won’t be concerned come tmrw 🤞

Hope so. Hopefully just me catastrophising. Really not having a good week so far, could do with some luck!

Sunday took her out for a short hack (15 mins on board and the rest in hand) - whilst leading her, with stirrups run up, she whipped her head round to scratch herself and got her lower jaw caught in her stirrup leather, like completely through it, trapped - panicked, spinning round and round on the road at 100mph, managed to calm her down and undo the girth to release her within 30 seconds but.. I mean what are the chances of that 🤯 mainly feel thankful she didn’t go down on the road and no harm done but bruised gums!

Then Monday all 3 horses spooked at something/nothing (darned windy weather) when I was bringing her in, the others barged into her so she barged into me, knocked me over and in my efforts to stop her pissing off up the field broke (or at least badly sprained, cba to go get it xrayed) my finger 😂 it’s not too bad and not my dominant hand at least.

And now this…

At least the mud’s gone 🤣 I am very, very grateful for that! Small mercies.

On boots, I have fusions for B, really rate them - a bit clumpy but they fit awkward foot shapes and have never rubbed, even when I was turning her out in them. Sounds promising for you 😊 xx

Gosh that was a torrid week for you.
The wind has been awful.
The jaw in the stirrup leather! Just how? They are so inventive at being dicks!
Yes mud has gone, also very grateful for that!
I’m also with a damaged finger, a horse I was riding did a stupid little spook move and I wrenched my little finger back on its neck. It’s damaged ligaments and a fat hand but manageable. Just riding with a full fist over the reins!
Horse seems to like the fusions. I will crack on with them and see how trustworthy they are at staying where they should when riding. Didn’t budge yesterday so first hurdle crossed xx
Fingers crossed for vet xx

As if we've got matching injuries now, lol... I keep strapping my finger up, then needing to unstrap it coz I can't do anything with it strapped up - very annoying! Hope yours heals soon. And no more matching injuries (horse or human), for the love of god!

Will update after vet's been. This thread keeps taking unexpected turns. Not really about NPA any more, is it!

Well, she's got cellulitis, and the leg is too swollen to detect anything else going on. She does have a tiny abrasion (must be from overreach boots) so that could be it. But there was definitely a lump and swelling half-way up the back of her cannon last night, not just my imagination, OH saw and felt it too. So, treating with antibiotics and anti-inflammatories, and restricting movement in case there is something more sinister going on with a tendon or something. Need to reassess once swelling has gone down, if the lump reappears or she's still lame by next Thu/Fri vet out again to scan. I've made her a stable-sized pen by the others so she isn't alone on the yard. Poor girly, hoping it's "just" cellulitis and the lump last night was the start of it.

Whatever next!

Lol. No just general pony woes! 😆

Maybe just her body has overreacted to the tiny abrasion. We had a dainty little mare on the livery yard I worked at who was swollen and lame from a similar tiny over reach boot abrasion one day. Cleared up in a few days, try not to worry. I think she’ll be fine

Yeah hopefully. She’s had it before from mud fever (hinds). Thanks for positive vibes, I’m in dire need of some positivity 🤣 will be ok… I may have to self-medicate with gin tonight tho 😂 xx

I’m with you. I’ve been self medicating a lot this last 6 weeks! 😆😆
