Hi,

I have a pair of nubuck leather riding boots which are looking shabby. Is it really detrimental to them to clean/moisturise them with ordinary saddle soap?

Tested a small area of boot with saddle soap and it seems to improve the look of it and even out the colour. Is it really bad for them, or just alter their appearance so they don't look like nubuck?

Any comments welcome.

Thank you.

I think so, I'm afraid. I thought it was a money racket so just used saddle soap and oil, but like you, mine were looking really shabby,(after costing me 250euro). i started using the ariat stuff and they look so much better. Now, It's not magic, but they do look alot better. My next pair will be treated properly from day one, but these ones will have to last another while!!!

Thank you for comments.

If saddle soap just alters the appearance of nubuck leather I will use that on them. Worried it would damage the actual leather.
