I'm looking for a new numnah to go under my event saddle for clinics etc. Needs to be black, fluff front and back but not under saddle. Not too thick and shaped, sort of a square with the corner taken off if that makes sense??!! Thank you!

I bought a numnah from nuumed for my share. With fluff round the edge only. It was not square but I think they will make them to order and their dressage ones may be square. I say "they" but it may just be one woman who makes them all herself.
Share mare isnt wearing a numnah at the moment as I suspect her weight has changed and she is in a different saddle with a thinner saddle cloth. But when I bought mine, the yard manager asked me to get a numnah identical to her previous, so that was her second nuumed. And you could look at their website.

I came here to also suggest Mattes and seen I've been beaten to it! Not lucky enough to own one myself (yet) but have spent many an evening on their online design thing 😂 and you'll be able to get what you are wanting. Heard nothing but good things so far

Top jump square has the fluff (no lining), bottom one has the Eurofit dressage cut but no fluff, though jump and GP are cut away a fair bit higher up at the rear. Make sure you've allowed the extra space for the fluff, no brand that I know of allows more space for the saddle, they all simply attach the fluff and decrease the space, by up to 4". The saddle should never be sat on the fluff, and if you have a wider seated/panelled saddle you may struggle for space to the sides so always check the measurements and size up if that brings you enough space without swamping the horse!

Yikes. Those mattes pads are always recommended on here by sb especially, so decided to take a look.

I am sure they are of excellent quality, and the various colour options are wonderful, but the price starts at £60 for the plainest and most basic, and quickly racks up to around £150-200 if there is any sheepskin involved. Eek!

SB, is there no alternative you can recommend for those who are on a different level of budget? Or is this not the type of client base you deal with anyway? That is not meant to sound offensive: it’s just that people do keep horses on different levels of budget and it would be good if it (horse riding in general) remained as accessible as possible.

I hear you, equally people deserve fair pay, whether it's the company making the product or the farmer producing the sheepskin. Good quality functional kit isn't cheap, horses aren't cheap. Making only maybe 5 colours per season, and only a few shapes, and probably making in the far east is WAY cheaper than what Mattes do, Mattes are made in Poland, and they don't rip off other companies' products either.

I deal with all sorts of customers but, even with the used fits I do, I'm not going to have the same market as someone selling a lot of synthetic and used saddles. I still have customers saying they can't afford things, some of whom are spending hand over fist elsewhere. Absolutely personal choice, but if the horse isn't being put first (and I'm not talking buying a fancy numnah here, more the principal of it)....

A shaped numnah has actually gone up a chunk which I hadn't realised, I was selling them for £41 not THAT long ago, but they were frankly cheap for what they were. LeMieux has plenty of squares at £59.95 RRP. £150+ is for a sheepskin lining. None of the other shim pads come close, though if you don't need shims then half lined sheepskin numnahs from other makers are okay, but they're not as well made and the sheepskin isn't as good IMO. If it's 30mm medical grade then it should perform the same, but this is expensive stuff whichever brand you buy.
