Numnahs/saddlecloths - what do you use and why?

Charlimouse your not a weirdo, I hate hate hate it when the girth is left attached and I also put my saddlecloth on the top of my saddle to air. I'm also really anal and always put a saddle cover over my saddle.

Not alone Charlimouse- my saddles both have their covers put on when not being used, girths completely removed and laid flat on top of saddle cover. I tend to leave saddle cloth under the saddles as they are just on single pole racks, so saddlecloth will air off just as well and it looks tidier! :o

Mr FigJam just treated me to a big plastic storage tub with lid for all my clean saddlecloths to live in! :D

Like you, I have quite a selection . . . it's a bit of an addiction.

Most of the time I use the LeMieux sheepskin half pad (no saddle pad underneath) . . . it doesn't affect the fit of his saddle but it does reduce pressure points and wicks moisture away from his back. As he's quite short-coupled, I'm quite fussy about making sure his saddle is in the right place, doesn't move and fits him well.

When that's in the wash, he wears a simple, cotton dressage square - we have them in multiple colours, LOL.

As he's changing shape/between me getting the saddler out to him (they don't just come out in half an hour!), I have a riser pad (I think it's by polypad) that helps keep his saddle off his shoulders (his shoulders are quite upright and that's always where his saddle needs adjusting). If his saddle is really not right then I just don't ride him.

He came with a thick, black polypad - but I never use it b/c I think it interferes with the fit of his saddle (although he came with a lovely Albion jumping saddle, I bought him a new one as his old one didn't fit him well).

This is what I do. Girths attached on one side and flipped over is a pet peeve of mine . . .

Saddle cover always on. Saddlecloth left on (unless really, really wet in which case I take it off and bring home to wash). Girth completely removed and laid on top of saddle cover.

Charlimouse that is entirely normal! Girth always taken off, saddles always with fleece covers on (must be fleece as wicks any moisture and lets them breathe!), saddlecloth on top to air. Drives me nuts when people leave girths attached - wrecks the girth straps.

Anky pads - and always aired on top and girth undone - annnnd breins done up in throatlash..and no, i don't have spare time - 3 children, full time job etc etc - just easier than falling over every thing and breaking my leg/neck!!!

Anky Pads wash and dry well and last for ages - just as well when you look at price!

I have loads of saddlecloths, but mainly use my dressage Scapa ones and the HV Polo one. Both have high withers on them, so don't have to keep pulling them up when riding. I purely use them to keep the sweat off the leather.

I have mainly HKM saddlecloths the big dressage square ones, purely because I have a large horse with an equally large saddle, normal size saddlecloths look ridiculous on him, numnah's you wouldn't even know he had one on even if it was bright yellow haha.

My saddles are left with saddlecloth on admittedly, although girth comes off, otherwise they have nasty bend marks on them.
