I think me and the boy reached a new level in numpty-ness yesterday.

I have to take him through a few electric fences to get back to his paddock. One of the cables had come out of the fence clips and was looping close to the ground. As I picked the handle up I lifted it higher to try and get the fence back into the clip on the post.

At this point my daft chestnut stuck his head over my shouder to see what I was up to and the hook on the handle got stuck on his head collar - he jumped back pulling the handle out of my hand.

Now out of reach the poor fella got shock after shock through his head. Fortunately this didn't go on for to long as he went back pulling the fent out until the connection from the battery off and also the hook free. He then entertained himself with the horse in that paddock while I sorted the mess.

Is there an award for forum numpty?

Horse now speaks 3 languages and is studying for his masters in astrophysics.

:D great story! I'll join you in the numpty club too lol I tried to use a poo picker over an electric fence as I am not just a numpty but bone lazy...needless to say I got a punch right in the chest from the METAL scoop I was leaning on the fence!!

I'll join you! Last winter I attempted to lead my 17hh out the paddock via an electric fence gate (tape and hook style) when my veteran 13.2hh decided he was coming first.

The b*gger ducked under the big guys neck as i had hook in one hand and lead rope in the other, knocked me out the way and the tape flew up and zapped the big guy and me.

Cue loose pony on route to his stable and upset horse off snorting round the field with lead rope trailing in the mud!

And me, covered in mud and muttering words that can not be mentioned in public!

I'll join you too, the other day rather than unhook 2 strands of electric I thought 'I'll just crawl under it' - why this seemed easier I'm unsure. Started to crawl under it but somehow got stuck, my jumper rucked up, and ended up getting about 7 shocks on my bare back!!! I've done things the proper way since.

I do see this as my pinacle achievement in the field of numptiness. I feel I have graduated from the usual undoing of 2 belly straps on a 3 strap rug and then having to slide the rug down over his back legs, repeating "DON'T PANIC" to the poor disconcerted looking equine.

I've done this!! I normally push down the top strand of the electric fence with a plastic feed bucket to make it low enough for me to step over (too lazy to use gate!), and then tried to do the same with the poo picker - not remembering the METAL handle runs underneath the scoop...the metal must have amplified the shock as I couldn't feel my arm for about 10 minutes!! My usually sympathetic hubby was most amused! :D:D:D

my regular act of numptiness when it comes to electric fencing is when i've decided to split the paddock with a line of poly posts and tape, i invariably forget to turn the power off first and shock myself silly when i attach the temporary line to the existing one:o i really really really hate getting shocks off the fence, for some bizarre reason it makes the elbow on whatever arm has been zapped go tingly for about 10 minutes afterwards:confused:

Don't worry. As you can see, there are myriads of us out here.

Having just relocated some electric fencing, I was extolling the wonders of the system to my non-horsy next door neighbour when my three darlings, ranging from 17.2 to 12.2, came galloping up the field, pricked their ears, and flew the electric fence into the long grass with gay abandon. The neighbour laughed so much he had to go indoors and sit down!

Sorry, but this has cheered up my morning :D

My hubby once ducked under some electric tape and got a shock on top of his head (I didn't laugh, honest). I've tried to adjust some eltric fence and forgot it was on :o

My numpty moment was when I decided to ride one/ lead one my two old girls round a huge field. All was going well until we had a canter up a hill, led horse spooked into ridden horse, who got shoved into fence...only it was barbed wire. And my leg met it first. And I had shorts on.

Horse was fine btw!

I clipped lead rope to horse, over the fence, undid the gate and somehow managed to get the hook caught in my pocket. We were in deepish mud and me and horsey did the 'dance of zapper' until he had the sense to pull away and let me get all the shocks until I sorted it out.

At my old work the fence runs off the mains. I went to catch some horses, turned off the fence, untied the wires (because in Ireland they dont have handles apparantley!) had both the bottom and the top wires in my hand. One of the smartass lads shouts over "Hey what one's the on switch?" I replied dumbly... "the green one". I seriously got such a bad shock I thought I was going to die and he all found it highly amusing. We ended up going out for a year ... How we didn't kill each other I'll never know!

I bought a new flyrug with builtin neck but it doesn't fit across the chest (plenty of length) but I couldnt' send it back as I'd already written my postcode on it with permanent marker pen (numptyness 1) so I sewed a square of stretchy lycra like a chest expander across the front of the chest.

Only thing is it's permanent so I can't undo the chest at all now.

So I said to ned "stand still mate while I pull this over your head" and bless him, he stands still while I pull the flyrug on or off over his head each time... (numptyness 2)...his very own poloneck jumper ;-)

Not numpty but electric fence related...
Trying to re-organise the fencing round my paddock and keep getting shocks off the tape, even though I've turned off and unclipped every energiser I can find!
Luckily it was fairly weak but I had to try to undo knots going "ouch.....ouch" for 10 minutes or so.
Still have no idea where the electric was coming from!

I dont really have any electric fence stories, but I did once get a proper zap from the horse walker! I went to get a horse off and forgot to check whether or not the shockers were on. The partition came back a bit so I pushed it away, cue massive shock and me letting out the biggest screech I've ever heard! My hand wad numb and tingly for ages and because my leg was touching the metal frame of the walker door the shock went right through and I had a dead leg! Not nice but amusing to everyone who saw it!

I thought naughty big head gelding headbutted me as he often does the other day, realised it was the electric fence, bless his befuddled face! He does headbutt me quite a lot though the big goof!

I used to get almost daily electrocution where I used to work I think I am immune now

The funniest was a naughty wee pony shoved me into two strands of main electric fencing electrocuting both of us. I promptly sat, down loosing control of my legs, and got dragged along on my bum still holding the rope

Last summer my husband decided to turn out the horses for me so I could have a lie in. Bless. He was only wearing boxers and wellies (thank god we have the gees at home!) and decided to duck back through the fence. I failed to tell him I'd electrified the bottom line of tape too to stop Houdini pony escaping....
:D:D:D

His meat and two veg got a full on zap from our mains-connected fence. I've never heard a man scream like that before!

It didn't do any lasting damage, we now have a 12 week old son :)
