Sorry if this is a stupid question with an obvious answer, but i just want to check first and see if any one else has had a similar experience to me!

Okay, so my horse is insured with NFU, veterinary fee's up to £5000, never claimed on him or the others that were insured with NFU in the past. He was sent to an equine hospital a few weeks ago with pneumonia and was there for a week for treatment, vet bill from hospital was nearly £3000, so we are claiming from insurance atm and they are willing to pay out :) but, if they pay out, does that mean that they won't insure him again against pneumonia in the future? Because in some cases if a horse has a problem with a certain leg for example and the owner claims on insurance for treatment for that leg etc, the horse is no longer insured on that leg, but is still insured on the other 3 legs?!? Also someone else i know has a horse that is prone to colic and insurers wont insure him against colic?

Sorry that it's long and i'm babbling on, and if this is a stupid question but I've never had to claim on insurance before with any of my horses so this is all new to me!!

Yes you have got it ,I would expect they exclude all wind problems when his insurance comes up for renewal.

No they have what is called a general exclusion they dont specifically exclude individual things. so if you have a claim again as long as it is proven to not be related to any previous injury/illness etc then it should be fine. Even if you dont claim it will still be on the general exclusion as it is a pre existing condition as with anything.

ok thanks, he has no previous lung problems etc, have spoken to owner who had him as a 2yo and have asked vet to forward full clinical history to NFU and there is nothing about lung problems (prior to the pneumonia) :)
