As a soon-to-be owner of a rescued Shetland pony, does anyone know if an ordinary (adjustable) pony sized headcollar will fit a Shettie if done up on the very inside holes? If not, any idea where I can buy special Shettie ones and what do I need to ask for? My local tack shop only sells pony, cob and full.

I think the bigger shetlands are fine in the pony ones. I have a little guy who though is supposed to be standard only made 35" and is very dainty. I find with him that the pony ones don't go small enough, and if by a small miracle the headpiece does go short enough then they're too tight under his cheeks and mini ones or foal slips are too flimsy, he tends to bend/break the ring that the leadrope attaches to. I had his made, the webbing one cost about £5/6 and his leather one £12.

And don't even get me started on the fit of shetland bridles lol

Congratulations on the new addition by the way, my shetland's fantastic, so much fun!

My new boy came with a little shettie rope halter (unfortunatly it is white with pink flecks) i have got him a foal size headcollar and now have no use for the halter and would happily post it if you PM me your address - if you dont mind a sightly pink halter!! it is quite useful as it adjusts to very very tiny

Huge thankies everyone! Dexterpat, have PMed you thanks hun. Hollypots, what a fabulous site - added immediately to my favourites and now can't wait to get Molly home to measure her for a teeny pink rug. She won't really need it as apparently she mega hairy and looks as if she's stuck her hoof in an electricity socket coz it's all standing on end at the mo. But she'll know she's home if she has a rug. Sunny has about 15 so Molly will need at least 1. Any excuse ha ha x

Its a fun site isn't it?

Have fun with your shetland. My friends has approx 25
